Developer woes

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,
there's no one around actually who I could chat about software development. So I thought maybe this could be the place for it.
Maybe some of you know my mods (Havoc!, PTS, UndertakerService, EmergencyService).
My current goal is to separate the autodrive functionality from the Havoc! mod into it's own mod as it has grown way beyond what's been initially planned and it's still growing.
That's no big deal thanks to a good architecture but heck I don't feel like programming at the moment and what bugs me most is not even the code restructurization but the guide - no it'll be two guides then.
How do you motivate yourself when you feel like that?

Also I have another question to the LCPDFR developer team: What revision control system do you use?
I like git the most and there's a free hoster called "BitBucket" where I have all my repositories.

If this is for GTA IV, you could try #gtaivnetscripthook on freenode. If not: I've used both git and svn in local repository modes, and git tends to be simpler (as it's *designed* for local repositories, unlike svn). For backup, I can just use normal backup utilities, OR accounts I happen to have on various *nix systems which I know are properly backed up (*nix means it works pretty well just editing over ssh/sftp (ssh if I'm lazy and using vim, sftp if I'm using a visual editor like Sublime) [Most of the coding I do is targeted towards gcc anyways, which I have more experience with].

We've always used TortoiseSVN for LCPDFR and all our other projects.  I can only speak for myself, but certainly for me, my main source of motivation are the people here that are huge fans of LCPDFR, and what we've done over the past 4 and a half years.  It's no use if that's it though, and obviously it just adds on to my own inspiration.  LCPDFR is something I like to develop, and the support and anticipation of all the fans around the world is what keeps me going with it, as cliché as it might sound.
