What Should I Upgrade?

Featured Replies

Hello,

For Christmas I was given 16GB RAM to replace my 4GB. That was good but now I am thinking about upgrading my Graphics Card or something else. My specs can be found below:

  • Windows 8 64-bit
  • AMD A8-5500 APU with Radeon HD Graphics
  • 16GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 620

Can anyone recommend a Graphics card, under £120, that will increase FPS and general gameplay?

I look forward to a response.

Under £120?! There's not many good ones for that much. I'd suggest the GTX 660. From what I hear you're getting your moneys worth with that card. If you want slightly cheaper, go with the GTX 500 series, but that's become obsolete now. The 660 isn't the newest but I'd definitely recommend it, but if you wanna fork out around another £100, go for the GTX 770 to future-proof your PC. Make sure your power supply is large enough to handle all the parts though.

Will I get anything with a 300W?

I'm not sure. I highly doubt it though. I'd say at least 600W.

Wow! Trying to do my bit for the environment and everything with a 300W :whistling:

Well that sucks, thanks anyway

Don't quote me on the info I gave you - I'm by no means an expert when it comes to PC parts. I suggest you wait til someone who knows what they're talking about confirms what I said. You could possibly get away with less, but you'd be risking it.

Yes, you definitely need a new PSU if you are going to run a new, and decent, card. So save up a little more, get a new 550/600w+ PSU and a new GPU. You could definitely go with a 660, but a 700 series NVIDIA card is better, like trewq said.

You could also aim for an AMD Radeon 7870 XT (or regular) too, but I have only used NVIDIA cards, so I don't know how well those are. I haven't been recommended it, either.

I have the money for it but I would say it is just for every now and then gaming. Wasn't really wanting to spend a lot on it :(

Im pushing 600W, with a AMD fx 8320 and a gtx 650 2GB 0C and i have just basic texture loss in some areas

600?! Wow!!! Thats overkill, i suggest: 500w.

To the starter: I suggest to wait a while, because Next marth Nvidia gonna release their Maxwell (800) series. Then wait a half year, to get some acceptable prices.

As said in the post above yours, 600W isn't even enough. Honestly, the prices here in the UK aren't too bad for PC parts. £145 is about normal in the UK.

Yea. Here in holland they just set the prices VERY high, just a Power Supply 600w silver: €74.77! Just a way too crazy.
