Is it possible to have disc version of IV and Steam copy of IV installed at the same time?

Featured Replies

So, I've had the disc version of GTA IV PC for a long time, but now I've been thinking about buying it on Steam because it's only 5€ at the moment because of the Holiday Sale.

But my question is, is it possible to have the disc version of GTA IV installed and the Steam of version of GTA IV installed on your PC at the same time just with different patches? The disc version would be 1.0.4.0 and the Steam version would be 1.0.7.0.

I would like to have the 1.0.7.0 version on Steam because I think it's a lot easier to use, but I would also like to have 1.0.4.0 because of the mods that are for that..

So, if anybody knows if this possible or not, please let me know! :)

My friend did this on his computer and it worked.

In the end, he had both his Steam installation in the Steam folder, and the disc version installed to his Rockstar Games directory.

It should work just fine for you, too.

In theory, it should be possible. If you install the disc version, upgrade it to 1.0.4.0 then download from Steam, it should be fine. If you install from Steam first, there is a chance that the patch files for 1.0.4.0 would install to the Steam directory (I'm not sure you can manually specify the install location for the GTA patches.

The only thing that could be an issue would be registry-related, but if you do it that way it should be OK.

What you can do is install the disk version & install patch 1.0.4.0 & make a copy of that of it & paste it in a new location & then update the main one to 1.0.7.0(not the files you copied)
i know this worked because i have done it before i have 3 copies of IV, Gostown & SA2IV.

Yeah, I know that you can do that. I have it that way myself, 2 copies of IV 1.0.7.0 and 1 copy of IV 1.0.4.0 :) But thanks anyway!

So, basically I would just have to remove 1.0.7.0 the disc version, and then download the Steam version and install it and it should work, because the 1.0.4.0 version is already installed and dowgraded.

Naah, dont think there will be any problems with the registering or anything like that, I got a disc version of EFLC but I bought the Steam version of it some time ago and I've had no problems with it :P

And thanks!

Steam should install it in a totally different spot to the disc version so you shouldn't have to move anything around.

I actually have a steam copy installed on my C: and another steam copy installed on my E:, one with all my mods and one that is fresh. I run the C: copy through the launcher as admin bcause it has my mods, and when I launch the game through steam it will use my E: copy with no mods.
