PC Monitor Black

Featured Replies

Hi,

My uncle owns a paper shop and he has a touch screen till. It's an all in one, so we can't just change the monitor. The till is a black screen when you turn it in. The touchscreen works because when you press the screen it still beeps and on the temporary monitor which isn't touchscreen being used with a mouse, the touchscreen does work. Does anyone know what the problem with it is?

It could be the back light of the monitor, that's what happened to my old laptop.

Is there anyway to fix this?

Try these steps:

1.  Unplug the laptop.

2. Remove the battery (if it is not removeable, skip this step)

3. Hold down the power button for anywhere around 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

4. Put the battery back in (if it is not removeable, skip this step)

5. Restart the laptop back up.

You could try opening it up and replacing the back light for the monitor.

Where do I buy a backlight and is it a generic bulb?

I tried this but didn't work. Thanks anyway.

In this case, it might be a backlight problem with your laptop. The only way to test if this is the case is to actually connect an external display to your laptop. If you have a monitor cable and another monitor, just take the cable and connect it into the slot on the back of the laptop (may be on the side). Connect the other end into another monitor and then start up the computer.

If the computer starts up and there's nothing on the external monitor, there is an issue with either the motherboard of the laptop, or the video card. If the display shows up on the external monitor, then the backlight is your issue.

This. I think you can buy them anywhere that sells computer parts, but I'm not certain.

Thanks for this. I have an external monitor connected at the minute and the picture displays on that. Does this mean it's definitely a back light problem?

Well, it could actually be a lot of things. It could be a cut wire to the backlight.. it could be a lot of things. If you're able to open the laptop and look at the wires connecting to the display, see if there's anything that looks damaged. The backlight bulb has a very high change to go out on you, and that's what it could be. You can find them online on Amazon probably.
