Modding and Crashing

Featured Replies

Hi, started modding GTA IV a while ago (say a few months back?) and it has been pretty rough for me since then. I do backup my files and reinstall when everything just goes haywire, but it isn't this bad as now.

Right now I am facing crashes usually 5-10 minutes into the game (free roaming now since I've completed the game) since the most recent modding period for me (say a week ago?). I understand that more scripts could possibly crash up the game, but it has never been this quick to crash.

Mods Installed:

  • Chevy Power! Pack 1.0 for police1, police2 and polpatriot
  • 2013 Ferrara 100' Aerial Ladder FDNY for Firetruck
  • FDNY EQ2B Siren 2.0 for Sirens
  • ELS 7 R2 for Lightings
  • IVDashCam 2.2.1 for Dash Cam REMOVED
  • Traffic Flow V5  R2 for Traffic Bug
  • LCPDFR 0.95 RC2 R2 REMOVED

And that's about all the mods I have. I have always checked the integrity of Steam cache files for GTA IV everytime I mod the game, and if I'm missing anything Steam automatically patched them in and the game runs fine. Yet now it's just suddenly crashing so often when I just return from MIA to modding. Lots of fatal errors but not once did it crash into the desktop without any message.

Anyone have any idea how to resolve (or improve) the situation? Much help is appreciated.

UPDATE: Tried to isolate the problem by uninstalling the various mods and trying for a few times each time, in the end removing the dash cam and LCPDFR seemed to do the trick. The game has been running smoothly since and I am still anticipating crashes but none happened as of now. :) I'll monitor for a longer while and if I need help I'll be back. Thanks ineseri for your guide too, I read it and it helps a lot. Thanks everyone. :)

When I had this, it was because I had a modded car in my parking space and whenever I went near it I would get this error, try deleting your save game and it should fix it.

That's indeed one thing I haven't thought about. I have a firetruck on my parking space from ages ago (save game). I'll try your suggestion and see how it turns out.

Are you running the game as administrator?

Weird I have always been on an administrator account but 'Run as Administrator' is not ticked on LaunchGTAIV.exe and GTAIV.exe... will launch them on these settings and see how it turns out too.

Do you have the latest patch of GTA IV installed?

Steam version, automatically patches for me. :)

UPDATE: It's sort of fixed for now, thanks guys! :)
