Steam

If I had GTA IV installed before I installed Steam (for MW2), would I have to start the game from Steam if I added the game to my Steam account thingymajub?

If you add the game to steam, make sure you add the LaunchGTAIV.exe instead of GTAIV.EXE.

And no,

You can launch it through the desktop or steam, but your friends will see you playing it (Works with any non-steam game) if you use steam

I did this for SWAT 4 yesterday.

Processor: Intel i5-6600 @ 3.30GHz

GPU: MSI ARMOR GeForce GTX 1080 OC

Ram: 16GB Skylake

Hm..I don't know what I'm doing wrong...How is one supposed to add a game to Steam? I don't know if I'm trying to add the wrong thing, or if Steam just doesn't like me (which based on past experiances, is very possible...). I went to add a non-steam game, chose LaunchGTAIV.exe, hit the add selected games button, but it doesn't appear in my games list.

Yep I browsed for it, found it in the GTA root folder, clicked it, and it showed up at the top of the list with a white checkmark in the box, so I hit the add button thingy (cant remember what it says exactly). It seems to do something, but when I look in the Games list, it is not there, nor does it regester me playing GTA IV.

Make your steam is set to show all games, not just installed/uninstalled. When I add non-steam games, and I have it set up for 'Installed' games only. Sometimes Non-Steam doesnt show up untill I run it once via steam (By not showing up I mean on 'installed' list)

@ Iconography, the only other game I have for Steam is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, which I installed from the disks, not downloading from Steam. I tried to add another game, but that also failed to show in my games list.

@Revan, I do have it set to show all games, but nowhere do I have an option for installed/uninstalled games, either in the adding a game dialog, or the game list itself. And how do I run a game with Steam if Steam does not register that I have it?

I dont know if it will help any, but my Steam ID is gnat008, nickname Arthas.

Like this..

steam://rungameid/<id> -- Same as run, but with support for mods and non-Steam shortcuts.

Source: Steam Browser Protocols

How to properly use it with a nonsteam game Im not familiar with, never used it with non-steam games. But most of the items in the link I have used

P.S.

In steam library, top left next to 'search' it should have 'View All Games' or 'Installed' 'Recently Played' etc etc

Hm. Well, this problem is now resolved...I didn't realise that there was another games list in the Library tab...I was going to the Community tab, and going to the games list there...So after deleting the 6-7 extra LaunchGTAIV.exe's, I started it and it showed me as being in-game and everything. Thanks for the help guys!

Glad to see its resolved :)
