Evga Gtx 550 Ti Graphics Hardware Not Found

I had something like this happen but it was because my motherboard was faulty. Did this card work before you had the hardrive failure?

This happened with my roommate's Alienware. I had to download a driver for his graphics card that was released on Dell's webpage for the laptop in order for the graphics card to be detected. Then he could update the driver to the latest version.

Okay, I've found a link and I am attempting to follow it: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/513621/installer-cannot-continue-the-graphics-driver-could-not-find-compatible-graphics-hardware-installer-/

but I can't find the Video Adapter in Other Devices. This is really disappointing, especially since I cannot search in Device Manager. Is there anywhere else the Video Adapters could be?

That was also the problem with the Alienware - the Nvidia card didn't show up anywhere in Windows, only in the Bios as a discreet card. I'm not sure where you would find it, but you probably need to download a specific, older driver just so the card is detected then update to the most recent version.
