My Crown Vic engine in GTAIV?

Featured Replies

Not sure if the right section for this but since it is pretty random...

Was just curious if I recorded audio from my crown vic engine, starting, shutting off, driving and running the engine wide open audio files could be made for GTAIV? may be kind of a dumb question, but it's just a thought.

I'm pretty sure you can replace car audio files. I haven't looked into it, but I assume it would be similar to replacing the siren sounds. As for recording, I would look and see which files are needed (like if you need an idle loop or if you need gear changing loops or something). It would be pretty awesome if you could pull this off!

I tried to make an audio file before, it sounded horrible, I just couldn't fine tune it, what I meant was i'd record the sound files from my car and upload them here or to whoever wanted to make use of them, but apparently nobody wants to do it .

Hmm. I don't know how GTA processes sound, but I'm assuming it should be pretty easy once you know how the files are structured?

As far as recording the sounds and editing them, that's not too hard. It's one of the things I would normally do for work (theatrical sound design/audio engineer).

What kind of mic are you using? And what's the recording environment? Those are gonna be the biggest factors in determining the overall sound quality.

GTA IV uses loops, a bit similar to TDU's sound system. It has low rev and high rev exhaust, and low rev and high rev engine sound with a revving off sound (when you let the throttle go). While in TDU, the sounds are exactly the same pitch in game as in the files, in GTA IV it's different. It's like every car has it's unique pitch. For example I edited the patriot's sound and I noticed it's way too low pitched compared to the in game sound. So I raised the pitch by 150% and I actually got a very close sound to what we have in game. I tried to adjust my perfect audio sample (looped properly, loud enough, sounds exactly like the real car) to the same pitch, however while the engine noise was kind of good (still far from perfect), the exhaust noise was completely ruining it. Sound modding in GTA IV fails.
