dsound.dll causes GTA to not work!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a GTA IV copy on steam (Obviously Legit) and I got lcpdfr on it, but whenever I run it with the dsound.dll it causes a "SecuRom has stopped working" etc but when I take off dsound.dll gta works fine. This is what I've tried doing:

I've down graded to 1.0.0.4

Reinstalled GTA IV twice

I'm running everything as administrator (I always start the game off of Razer Game Booster)

Installed 3 different kinds of dsound.dlls.

I'm really hoping to play online which is why xliveless is not an option for me. Also I'm running windows 7.

LCPDFR requires the latest patch, so make sure you are running 1.0.7.0. Have you marked them as priviliged applications? You do this by going to the GTA IV folder, right click on GTAIV.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility and select 'Run this program as administrator'. Do the same exact thing to the LaunchGTAIV.exe.

Also, reinstall LCPDFR with administrative rights.

Done all of this and still didn't work. BUT what I did find is that if I launch GTA without dsound.dll in my folder, then I add it back when social club pops up it will work! This is a temporary fix, but is there any way I can fix it so that I don't have to constantly move it?

I've tried every launcher. I just re-tried the launcher you told me to try launching the game from and it didn't work. It doesn't even do anything at all. I tried using that launcher without dsound.dll and it also didn't work. I'm also launching it as administrator. I have no clue why this happens! But to awnser your question, no I do not. I use razer game booster or steam.

You should always be using the LaunchGTAIV inside your GTA IV folder. Steam is not needed for launching the game, so you can turn off steam.

You could try and revalidate the files by right-clicking GTA IV inside of the steam application, go to properties and select the tab local files. Click validate game cache (or something similar, all from memory).

I tried that a couple of times. It didn't work, but its definatly not my computer specs because I was able to run LCPDFR fine before. Also as I said I can run it if I move dsound.dll out of the file, then move it back in when social club loads up.

Although I'm not sure why, I find the only dsound.dll that works with my system is the one that comes with LCPDFR itself- are you trying to install another one? Make sure you install LCPDFR and leave the "Install dsound ASI Loader" option checked and dont replace it.

Not entirely sure what caused it, but that's how I managed to fix my game not running with dsound as well.

I've done that. I honestly even tried un-clicking it, then clicking it. It always reinstalls (I'm sure because I deleted dsound.dll before installing LCPDFR) so yes I'm using LCPDFRs dsound.dll. It sadly doesn't work, any one else know a trick to fix it?
