Ah GTA IV coding is great. If it works for you, keep it that way haha. :)

Thats a memory leak, You need to write a command line to stop that (not entirely) Memory leaks are caused when your systems under pressure. That and GTA IV's coding is horrible

To circumvent a less powerful computer, and maybe get the game up and running, create a txt file called “commandline.txt” (without quotes) in your main GTA IV installation directory. Insert the following lines:
-renderquality 0 -shadowdensity 0 -texturequality 0 -viewdistance 0 -detailquality 0 -novblank -norestrictions -width 320 -height 240 -safemode -windowed -availablevidmem 2 -percentvidmem 100 -minspecaudio -novsync -renderquality 0 -frameLimit 0 -nomemrestrict

This should stop the memory leaks. If this seems to be working, consider changing the commandline.txt file to this instead:

-novblank -norestrictions -percentvidmem 100 -frameLimit 0 -nomemrestrict

See if this works.

Also, because of how GTA IV stacks functions in the memory, after a while the scripts will start to act up and crash. There is fortunately a quick fix for this.

1. Bring up the console in-game by pressing the ‘tilde’ key. It’s located above your ‘tab’ key. Note: Some users (including myself) needs to press the ‘ö’ key instead.

2. Type “reloadscripts” (without quotes). This will cause all scripts to be emptied from the memory and then loaded again.

3. Press LeftCtrl+P to force duty. Done!

Note: This will also fix any scripts-related errors like:
  • Not being able to pull over a car after a while of gameplay.
  • Backup disappearing / Not arriving at all.
  • Prisoner transport not moving / Not arriving at all
