Problem with my 2003 CVPI

Featured Replies

I bought an 03 retired CVPI, put $4000.00 worth of repairs into it, got it safetied and on the road, but I have a couple issues, when I put gas in it, it either spits out at me if I pump to fast, it will sometimes leak fuel from what looks like behind the driver side back tire, second issue, when I shift from park to drive (this started today) P R N D 2 1, Park is set to Neutral etc etc, but it will shift through all the gears no problem, anyone have any thoughts?

the car is only worth 1000$ and you put 4000$ into it? where was my post where I talked about real cvpis and why they should be avoided.. hmm

you shifter linkage is next up

as for the fuel, check to see if the anti siphoning valve is knocked off and restricting fueling.. that will cause the burp and vomit of fuel.

enjoy, that pos :)

Yes it's worth $1000.00, but I don't regret putting the work into it either.. I enjoy the car, anywho, how much do you figure it is to fix the shifter linkage?

I've got the same year, but it's an LX Sport:

It's normal to have problems with used cars, especially on ex-police cars, since they beat the snot out of them.

On mine, the A/C switches to defrost/floor/other modes constantly without even doing anything on the highway. I can get by it by turning it on/off repeatedly. That's the only problem I can think of, in addition to

the rip in the leather center console, which isn't really a mechanical problem. Other than that, it's a good car. Someday I'd like to put a Marauder engine in it, which is basically a Mustang's 4.6.

That A/C issue on mine would cost around 1,400$ to fix, since they have to take apart the whole dash. Some things are better off waiting to be fixed, that might be the case with your car. Unless you have the budget to fix it. But by the sound of it, fuel leaks aren't very good.

My car has quite a ways to go before i'm happy with it, I want a new paintjob, a center console, some strobe lights, redone interior and fix the issues it has like the fuel issue, but it just started to smell like fuel today, I just replaced the transmission on it and a bunch of other stuff, I can't afford anymore of a repair bill right now, I just spent $700.00 on brand new brakes and rotors, $120.00 on an undercoat as Nova Scotia uses a lot of salt in the winter, new torque converter, transmission which was $1900.00..

Is that the interior of you're car? and mines an Ex RCMP Cruiser.

Well, that's not the interior of my car, but it looks just like mine, although it's in much better condition. Mine has quite a few rips in it, which I hope to get fixed. It looks like someone keyed the paint job on the outside as well, but mechanically, it's good.

You could probably transform your interior and make it look like the LX Sport if you wanted to. I don't know how easy it is to change the location of the shifter though. But anything's possible, it's whether or not you're willing to spend the money on it.

Damn, that's rough, I don't really like the shifter on the steering column lol I like the setup in the LX :P, it's not a police cruiser anymore, so it doesn't need the shifter on the steering column, it also still have the back doors of a police car, power locks don't work anymore, so the back doors won't unlock, and the constant ticking, however I did have'er at 145km/hr yesterday :D

First off, why?

The first problem you have is probably the gas line (I forget the name) is curved and it will spit gas back out at you. It's kind of like a funnel when you put to much in it over flows because you are putting more in that it can put in the gas tank.

Your other problem is a transmission problem. My friend had a car that would do that, a few weeks or months later the transmission gave out. Wish I had 4000 to waste on a pile of shit. Why wouldn't you buy a newer model for cheaper? They all look the same any ways....

I worked day and night (literally) and worked damn hard to put this car on the road, so the reason I bought the car is really irrelevant..

anywho.. have you seen the prices people want for crown vic's? $4000.00... $5000.00... $6000.00...

I just put a new transmission in it less than a month ago, so I really don't see how it would be a transmission issue.. it shifts fine..

Look on Kijiji Halifax: http://halifax.kijiji.ca/f-ford-crown-victoria-Classifieds-W0QQKeywordZfordQ20crownQ20victoriaQQisSearchFormZtrue

and tell me I can get a crown vic for cheaper than what I paid.. they aren't as common to see out here..

I bought a new hammer and it broke with in a week.  Something isn't right either on the transmission or on the gear shift.... Going to have to look at it, but you will need two people, one to shift it and do that thing it does, then one to look at it and see why its doing that... Could be as simple as its just slipping. Also why would you ask on a gaming site, probably most people here wouldn't know what a engine is. No offence anyone that knows about cars......

use this website instead...

Sorry people but i'm not going to have this guy listen someone who knows very little about cars and have you waste money you don't need to waste. That website has everything you need to know and you can ask anything you want on there about crown vics.... Just look at the website name..
