Windows Error Recovery? PLEASE HELP!

Featured Replies

I have just recently installed a new graphics card to my computer. After playing for around 15 minutes, my computer makes a popping sound, then it just goes to this windows error recovery screen. I can still start windows normally again once I get to that screen. Any Ideas on how to solve this?

Thanks

ensure you are using the latest drivers, and does it happen to any game or just GTA IV?

*EDIT* also is the poping sound coming from your speakers or actually inside your computer.

My guess is, that you upgraded your graphics card without calculating the total wattage of your computer in relation to the wattage provided by your PSU; ergo, your GPU drags a massive amount of electricity, your PSU can't provide enough for everything, your PC performs an emergency shutdown due to low power on the CPU.

Give us your PC specs (please include wattage of the PSU).

My PSU is 500 watts and its made by turbolink

My other Specs are...

GPU: Geforce GTX 460 (NEW)

CPU: AMD-4100 Quad Core Processor

Memory: 8 GB RAM

OS: Windows 7

EDIT....In my computer, only three of the four wires of the graphics card match with the ones of the computer and are hooked up.

(If that helps)

Well idk about your power consumption, but I had to upgrade my 500W PSU when I bought a GTX 570. (It had been running with a GTS 250 before)

Maybe you can borrow a more powerful PSU off another PC and see if that fixes it?

I think I might have found the problem. I looked on my card box, and it stated I need a power supply with at least a 12V current rating of 24A. I only have 16A or 18A. Should I just upgrade my power supply then?
