Hi my GTA IV folder inside my program files won't stay unchecked read only. I keep unchecking it and clicking continue through it and it keeps going back to being checked.

Why would you want the whole GTA IV folder to be not read only? Sometimes when you want to modify like a .dat or .ide archive just change the archive to be writable.

Because thats the only way for my game to work or atleast thats what the guy in my last topic explained.

Whatever the last guy explained you either misunderstood or he was incorrect, you do not need to under any circumstances make your entire GTAIV folder non-"read only".

You may at some stage need to uncheck read only on individual archives within the folder, but unless you decide you want to re-code your exe or dll files at some point, the rest can stay as read only.

Can you explain why you're actually trying to make it read only?

Is the game a cracked release? Is it legitimately purchased via D2D or Steam? I am using the Steam copy of the game, all I need to do is disable UAC (User Account Control) and right click on LaunchGTAIV.exe and select run as administrator.

In summary, why are you wanting it to not be read only?

I was suggesting a solution to his game not starting from support.

Set your GTA IV folder so it is not read-only.

He clams it's fixed now though.

It is a purchased copy from walmart and it worked after i unchecked read only and then when i restarted my comp it wouldnt stay unchecked and now it doesnt load up again.

So it's not working still?

Do you have UAC enabled?

Have you tried installing it to somewhere like C:\GTAIV or similar? It may be an access problem caused by having it installed in your program files directory. Mind you as far as I know that issue is fixable by disabling UAC (user account control).

Keep posting back if you can't get it working with these work-arounds.

The last video you posted in the other thread I noticed you were not running the game as admin. I can tell because you didn't right click it and click 'run as admin', nor was there a little shield on the icon itself indicating that you always run as admin.
