Another Terrorist Attack

Featured Replies

I don't know if everyone heard about this but just yesterday two suspects supposedly linked with Al Qaeda tried to blow up a train traveling from Albany, New York to Toronto. The suspects are being held here in Canada because they were caught on the train here. I cannot believe that already someone is trying to attack the U.S and Canada so soon after the Boston Bombings.

really not a terrorist attack unless it actually happens. This was just a terror plot to clear things up. They are 2 different things with 2 different meanings....

So much terror plots happen without the news and the general public even knowing it. A couple of months ago, I attended a guest lecture by the federal prosecutor who is an expert on terrorism. From what I can derive out of his lecture, potential terrorists are stopped on a weekly basis thanks to intelligence and police agencies. He discussed several examples where our Belgian intelligence/police agencies shared information with the CIA, MI6, the French DGSE and the German BND. That information eventually led to the capture and/or neutralization of several terrorists plotting attacks on, for example, the NATO building and even police academies. And that's for a small country like Belgium (we do have the NATO and EU headquarters in Brussels though), imagine for a country like the US.
What we will never know though is if these potential plots would actually have been realised as well. Nevertheless, you can't take the risk seeing public safety is involved.

"Dura lex, sed lex"

The point of terrorism is to spread fear in the population. The fact that you don't hear about failed terror plots seems like a good thing. Also: good job, everyone involved in stopping this.
