GTA IV Random crashes

Featured Replies

I recently installed LCPDFR (i am new here :D) and since I installed it, the game keeps crashing every 5-10 minutes sometimes right after loading and sometimes 2 hours later. All I have installed as mods are: LCPD:FR 0.95, ASI Loader, Scripthook, Advancedhook. I have the latest version of GTA IV (1.0.7.0). I use windows 7 Ultimate x64 but the game runs on compatibility mode with Windows XP SP3, and as admin. My PC specs are:

CPU: Intel i3-2120 OC to 3.7GHz

RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1333MHz

GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 650

HDD: 350/500GB Left

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Having just found this mod, I myself am new as well.  Before I begin however, let me just say that I'm sincerely impressed by the work that went into this project, I've watched several videos regarding this mod and am anticipating a great and rewarding bit of gameplay once I do manage to get the kinks worked out.

Much like the original poster, I've installed the RC2 version on a 1.0.7.0 version of GTA IV (without ELS) just to get a base install working to look at.  However, it seems that no matter what I do I end up crashing the game minutes if not seconds after I load the mod and begin playing.  Sometimes I make it through model selection for the officer in service, sometimes I even get as far as a traffic stop and then the sound starts looping, the screen locks up, and GTA  eventually after a few minutes drops from the task manager.

My computer specs are as follows:

AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual

Core Processor 5200+

2.61ghz, 3.50GB Ram

Nvidia GeForce 8800

Windows XP SP3 Home Edition

On lower settings I've played successfully through GTA IV several times without issue, but when this mod loads its a crash fest and I've reinstalled probably 3 or 4 times in the last 2 days trying to get things running right.  Any help at all would really be appreciated as I'd love to actually get through an hour or two of game play and enjoy this mod.

The mod is awesome I admit! There's no words to describe the feeling of arresting someone instead of being arrested xD I tried running the game on lowest settings, the game textures starts flickering as soon as I start looking North. I re-installed the game with no mods everything went fine. I tried to run G17 Diagnostic tool, it said that ASI loader was not found even though I installed and made sure it's working. I'd really love some help :)

As well have the same exact issue running the same exact things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: My copy of GTA IV is 1.0.7.0 and running from Steam. Using the latest LCPDFR and that is the only mod installed. I chose not to install xliveless as it was not recommended.

Have you guys tried running the diagnostic tool (opdelta did, how about the rest of you guys?).  Maybe try installing the latest scripthook and see if that helps.  It goes in your games main directory, depending on which one you're playing.  I don't have a link at the moment, as I'm headed out the door, but I think you'll find it if you go to Abraxas VdhPolice Helper download page and I think there is a link in the description.

Please post results in the message.

Good day,

I don't know if this can help but I attached my LCPDFR log and Scripthooker log. Perhaps it might help solving the problem?

EDIT: I was able to play the game for 20 mins before it crashes when I opened the police car computer. The HUD was missing, all I saw was the username and password with no mouse to be able to click "OK". So I stood there watching my FPS dropping then "GTA IV stopped responding"

Edited by opdelta

I was playing for 51min 28sec and the game froze. The game froze when I was in pursuit.

Good day,

DrDetroit

I ran it and everything came back kosher, no issues to report at all..  Even had a clear and easy installation of the mod in the beginning, this is primarily what has me baffled.  Granted my machine is older, I can't run GTA IV on high or even full medium without horrendous lag and issues, but crashing is something it has never done on the standard game installation.   Personally, I'm glad I'm running out of hair due to my age, because I'd have ripped most of it out by now anyhow if I did have it.

It's a shame Rockstar doesn't make a GTA release where you can choose to be the cops instead of the bad guys and include the functionality that this mod does, there just isn't anything else out there like this. As a former reserve police officer I really wanna try this out more extensively lol.

I thought the same thing; would be nice if you could be the cops in freeroam mode or something to that effect.  That's how I found LCPDFR actually...I thought there has to be a mod where you can be a cop, did a google search and whala!

Anyhow, you're specs seem as if you should be able to run GTA without too much lag.  Is your Nvidia a 1-2gig card?  Could be that is your bottleneck.

Try turning off shadows, turn water quality to the lowest setting, set draw/detail distances 20 or less and car density to under 20 or even 15.  All texture quality to meduim, reflections to low.  Also, try lowering MipMap settings in your Nvidia control panel and turn off Anti-Alias and Anisotropic Filtering.  Basically set your vid card to performance and not detail, see how that works.

Good luck!

Wow, CPU is 8Core, 16gig ram that's PHAT!

If you have your game modded with alot of ELS high-poly cars, ENB, timecycles and the like, you'll most likley be subject to random crashing and lockups no matter the machine your running the game on.  I can usually go 2-hours on average before my game crashes, but sometimes I'll crash within 20-minutes.  Although, if that happens, after restarting the game I'll run smoother frames and get a good 2-hours of gameplay or more.

BTW:  I do notice that your scripthook.net is not valid.

Note: For some reason I noticed I get much better frames if I quite the game after it loads the first time then reload the game again.  I figured maybe some game files are committed to memory and the game loads faster and runs smoother after the second restart.

Good luck!

I noticed that as soon as I delete my ENB mod (No matter which one I use), the crashes are less frequent. I actually played for around 30 mins (New record!)

Thank you! I have been editing some of the .ini files and I seem to get my crashes less frequently. It was for sure the timecycles. My car is the only one with ELS enabled and I do not have ENB.

Also, I know it says the scripthook.net is not valid, but I have NO clue where to find a valid one lol.

Thanks for the help.

Here is the link for the latest scripthook.  Just pop it in your games main directory.

Try RTCv4 located in the download section.  Pretty good time cycle, better color and never crashed my game.

Looks to me like you just need to re-install LCPDFR and it will probably fix your issue.  I'm no expert but I seem to remember seeing the same issue not long ago and the solution was to re-install LCPDFR.

Also, search the forums with the search function, it works very well.  In most cases, these things have been answered more than once.

Here is the link for the latest scripthook.  Just pop it in your games main directory.

Try RTCv4 located in the download section.  Pretty good time cycle, better color and never crashed my game.

Thank you so much for the help! I will try out the RTCv4!

Also, I put that scripthook in the main folder and it still says out-of-date. But I will not worry to much about it.

The RTC looks good when you max the in-game contrast slider and lower the brightness to zero (or vise versa), looks pretty damn good and not a system hog either.

Even if it's a similar issue, we'd rather you make a new thread.

Nothing to see here!
