Featured file system upgrade

Featured Replies

I propose the Featured file system to be amended as follows:

  • This can use the current "Featured" tag name or some other, such as "Recommended" or "[Very Good]."

  • In the feature, files can be marked as such indefinitely and without being limited by the number of such files by their author.

  • After this, the main page can utilize this system variously, e.g., a few of the latest-featured files will show, or only those "recommended."

Are you saying to rename featured?

That depends on how the setup will work.

The problem I'm trying to address here is that there is often really no difference between the worst mod available (unless it's marked as outdated with the tag) and an amazing, most optimized script, plugin, car, etc. (unless it's currently lucky to be among the 10 featured files).

The inspiration is from the pretty inferior gta5-mods.com site. There, files get the feature tag for pretty much forever, which allows people to easily identify and also search for good mods. At any time, the four latest-featured files are shown on top of the main page, while they cycle to show one of them with more detail: image.png

Though I have only now noticed that there is a dedicated Featured page with more mods than the 10 shown on the main page. Therefore, perhaps I should start with the following question: Will mods (start to) get featured for an indefinite period of time, and without per-author limitation?

It's not our intention that things in the featured feed would be there forever. In reality, things can end up there for a long time.

There is no per-author limitation, I'm not sure what you mean by that?

We also have the 'Essential Mods' category, which is baked in with other GTA5 Mods category. This is meant to be longer term, and with mods we feel are essential to the 'LSPDFR' experience.

It’s hard to determine which mods are objectively “the best.” We have strong discovery mechanisms, but we don’t necessarily make a definitive judgment on which mods are objectively great.

In many ways, the community makes that call through what they share, what gains traction in their own spaces, what trends, and what gets downloaded most. But all of those signals are shaped by multiple factors, and they don’t always point to the same answer.

Of course, these are just suggestions for the featured file tags.

I'm pretty sure that when someone's new / newly updated mod gets featured, their other featured mod gets unfeatured (e.g., Faya).
