How do people get their skins so perfect?

Featured Replies

So, I own a clan, and I find it VERY hard to make good skins! They turn out to be very generic, and boring with nothing really going on in them. Role Play Code 3 is one of my favorites for their skins, and I'm getting really annoyed with how my skins look so terrible. Then, I started downloading cars, with skins already installed, and realized how perfect they were as well. So here is my question, how are they so accurate and amazing?! How do I get mine to look as great as those ones from RPC3 and from others. Is there a special technique? Because, I was just taught to use the 'Polygonal Lasso Tool' on Photoshop CS6, and go from there. Obviously, there is some sort of tool that is more effective, because when using the Lasso Tool, everything turns out to have jagged edges and look very inaccurate. Help is greatly appreciated, because I desperately need to know how to make good skins, and uniforms!!

Thanks,

Try learning to use the "Pen" tool (google it for some tutorials)

I haven't seen your skins but I have seen some pretty boring ones on here sometimes and here's my tips for their creators on how to improve:

Using an overlay like honeycomb pattern or checkerboard can add that substance and authentic touch to your reflective markings. Add a few decals like a US flag (but don't overdo it) and unit numbers, make your own unit code (10 for Algonquin South, 11 for Algonquin North, 20 for Bohan East etc. unit 235 - 235th car in fleet etc.), experiment with different fonts - I cannot stress how important it is with this - if your gonna just use Arial or the standard types then it will look boring...

Polygon lasso is good - I use it quite alot but the Pen tool is what you want when you want curved edges...

Also you can make your own (This is done in the movies and stuff) For this learn the pen tool.

Making your own font can work, but can be a lot of work to get right.

Try starting out with small tweaks, and build up. Get to know and love paths and other objects - it's much easier to make a skin when you can easily copy and reflect the stripe you just made.

I usually look at random decals on Police Car Website. Next, I will find a picture that has a side pic, something to use as a tracer. Next, I will try to trace it out with the Pen Tool (Best thing ever next to Magic Wand). Once that is done, I will start adding text. I can usually get the font just by looking at it (Most of them, I already have). After that, I will just add all the random stuff like little logos and unit numbers. I will create a copy of that side, flip what can be flipped (Not text). After that, I do the trunk, hood, etc. I will work on the plates. I recently started making my own instead of finding them on google. I will add my logo in the places that will not show on the skin.
