Fredericton is where I'm at now, lived here for almost a year. Before was Saint John, the smelliest dirtiest most polluted city of the Maritimes no doubt.

I'm not Canadian but damn do I love Canada. Such Beautiful cities and a amazingly looking countryside away from the major cities. It makes me drool every time I see photos of Canada. I wish the US was as clean and beautiful as Canada. I'll be following this thread just to see the amazing photos that is everyone posting of their town/cities.

Question though, I know that in Quebec the language is French. Do other Provinces require french as the primary language?? What other languages are spoken in Canada?

Would love to live there someday, but I only speak English as my primary language and Spanish as the second.

French isn't required in other provinces. You do have to learn some french in certain grades (in Alberta, that is), but when you enter high school you no longer have to learn a secondary language. There are various languages spoken in Canada due to the large amount of other nationalities, but the two official languages of Canada are English and French.

So no, you don't need to know French, but there are some jobs that are easier to enter provided you know French or another language (ie. RCMP).

In Ontario it's mandatory that you take French from Grades 4-10.

That's actually partially true, they have Police in Quebec (from what i've heard) that hand out big fines if english is not the secondary language on sign's, ALOT of places are like that in Ontario cause it's so close to Montreal and such, Moncton, NB is the same, from what i heard, Harper is trying to make Quebec it's own independant settlement.

@ Moonshine- Fredricton was pretty nice, i don't really like New Brunswick though lol had alot of issues with people there, i have a friend that lives in Oromocto.

I live in Ontario and I have had to learn French since grade 3 I am in grade 10 and I just stopped learning last year. So for a lot of jobs around northern Ontario you must know French. I am not sure about the other provinces though.

I live in Muskoka Ontario, although it isn't technically a town, but rather a collection of towns spread out through the district. Some key features below. The closets town to me is Huntsville.

Due to the rural nature of the area however, we have the largest drug-trafficking zone in the province next to Northern Ontario. As such, we see a hefty presence of OPP in the area. Some of the most common OPP Drug Enforcement Agency equipment in the pictures below:

In Alberta I have only had to learn French from Grade 7-9. So I guess it just all depends on the province.

Harper isn't trying to make Quebec an independent country. Actually, the Canadian government is strongly against, for the most part, the splitting up of Quebec. Quebec will never split from Canada.

On another note:

In Ontario, the provincial law says that our road signs must be in both English and French. If there is a road sign that is only in English and you speak mainly French, you are legally allowed to disobey that sign and in court you would be able to argue that the sign is not legitimate due it not having both English and French.
