What does Mapped mean?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I hope this is the right section.  Anyway, when I am looking at Vehicles, some say that their Vehicle is mapped.  I kinda think that it has something to do with adding additional liveries but not sure.  I downloaded a file that says the vanilla Fire Truck and Ambulance is mapped to accept additional liveries or something like that and I do like the liveries that come with that download.  It's an older download.  The current vanilla version has 3 liveries (MRSA, LSFD, LS Medical Center).  With this download it includes SAMR which I like and it has LScoFD and a BC county livery which I like.  So when an Author of a Vehicle says that their vehicle is mapped, what does that mean?

I would think it is 3D-texture mapping that is made for the models. It makes it easy to use new textures and decals (witch i believe is called 'Livery' in this forum)
Here is something about 3D-texture mapping:

Let me know if you find it interesting.
Best Regards.

Oh ok.  Thanks.  Before I posted this I did a google search "What is mapped?" "What does it mean?" and similar wording and it come back with actual map links and how maps are made and stuff.  Nope, that's not it, lol.  I thought it did have something to do with vehicle textures, skins, liveries and compatibility with vehicles.  Probably someone who makes vehicles/textures would know.  There are some older vehicles that say mapped in the title or description but they don't say what it means.  Those authors aren't really active on here anymore.  I don't see that word anymore when someone releases a new vehicle.  So I'm not sure. There were a couple older vehicles that say mapped that I was interested in trying but never did.  That's why I had this question.
