AlienWare

Recommended Posts

Alright so I have been getting alot of PM's and emails about Alienware if its any good. Now before I get a PM on here about it let me say this 1 time and 1 time only

DON'T BUY ALIENWARE

Lets list a few reason why

1.) Its over priced polished shit

2.) Its made crappy

3.) Only reason why its so much money is because they make it out of some medal.

4.) Doesn't last long

5.) Once you buy it your stuck with it, you can't upgrade on them because there motherboards are only work with things they make.

6.) You can make a custom built computer for cheaper and better.

7.) Terrible customer support

Have any questions feel free to ask..

If your a person who owned Alienware and your here to try to defend it be my guest....

Before you hit that little red arrow I did this so it would save from hundreds of post of people saying is this Alienware computer any good?

300th post =D

I have one. Was a top of the line model a couple years back. I bought it because quite frankly I was too lazy to build my own at the time, lol. My experience with it has been overall good, although you're totally right on a few points.

Over priced? Absolutely.

Poor build quality? I think that's probably more of an individual thing. Overall their quality has gone down a bit since Dell bought em out, and mine had a CPU fan issue almost right out of the box, but other than that, in my experience, this has been a pretty solid machine. I leave my tower on pretty much 24/7, and have for quite a while now and [knock on wood] it hasn't done me wrong yet.

Some kind of medal? Not really sure what you mean by this, but I can assure you mine isn't made out of platinum or something crazy like that.

Doesn't last long? Like I said earlier, running nearly 24/7, 365, mine hasn't had a single bad eff up yet, and I've had this for at least 3-4, maybe even 5 years now.

Motherboard compatibility? I've upgraded a couple things here and there without a hitch, I found my tower was laid out quite nicely actually.

You can DEFINITELY build a better computer for cheaper, you just have to know what you're doing to an extent.

Customer support? Never really had to deal with them much, but I've heard of a lot of bad experiences with them, so I wouldn't doubt it. I think that's another thing that can be traced back to the Dell takeover.

Anyway, just my two cents...

I have to say you just got lucky, I have seen so many broken alienware computers at were I use to work its not even funny... The stuff I said is from when I worked there people would bring in stuff for us to install on to there Alienware computer and it won't work not because its wrong PCI or anything, its because it wasn't made by them...

Alienware's fine in my book. It's overpriced, but all custom ordered machines are, whether it's Alienware, Falcon Northwest, Voodoo PC, or even basic vanilla machines from companies like Apple, HP and Sony. The cable management (and therefore air flow) is way better than anything I can manage myself, it comes with a good warranty (with options for an extended warranty that covers more things) and has tech support. I build my own stuff to save money, but I'm not an expert factory builder, and I have to be my own tech support. I chose my path and I'm happy with it, but others need custom built machines. Alienware is one of the better companies to do it with, but it wouldn't be my first choice. They're the first name that comes to everyone's mind through, and they have brand power after being bought out by Dell.
