What price range are you looking for for your video card? If you got a little to spend, the pc that I am awaiting arrival of has this...

More is better. My computer has, i think, 3GB of graphics memory, but yet i can't run the game at high settings. I have to run almost everything on low and I am just barely able to squeak by with just enough fps to run the game.

Why thank you for buying that for me mind just shipping it to my house?

lol

But ya go with 2gb if you have the money and make sure its a good card to if your going to get 2gbs.

But I think GTA 4 only supports up to 1024 mbs (1gb) if i'm correct?

I only have a 1GB graphics card, and 8GB of RAM. You'll be just fine with those specs.

Thanks for the help guys :D

Im able to get a desktop with 8GB ram and 1GB graphics card or should i get a laptop with 8GB ram and 2GB graphics card?

Make sure your video card is at least a 256bit interface. I have 2 128bit video cards in crossfirex mode and it only bumped my fps by 50

Speaking from experience desktops are usually better for gaming than laptops. And video memory isn't the only important here. Also look at the GPU clock speed. I use a MSI GeForce GTX 680 Lightning with 2GB of memory. Out of the box it runs at 1175 Mhz or something like that. I have overclocked it to approx 1300 MHz which made quite a big impact on my FPS in most games.

The CPU also affect your framerate and so does RAM size AND speed. As and example there is a difference between a i5 3570 and 3570K processor in terms of game performance. If I were you I'd set a budget for my rig and let that decide if I should go for i3, i5 or i7 processor. Then pick a graphics card that fits my wallet and my gaming needs.

Case: Corsair Vengeance C70 | Mobo: MSI Z77A-S01 | CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K@4.2GHz | Cooler: Corsair Hydro H100 | RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 Mhz LP 8GB | GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 680 Lightning@1300MHz | SSD: Corsair Force 3 SSD 120GB | HDD: Seagate Maximus Hybrid 500/4GB | QPAD Mk-85

BTW. Size of VRAM is not a good measurement when it comes to video cards. Some 1GB cards are better than 2GB ones.

Thanks for the help guys here's a link to the laptop and the desktop. It would be great if you could help me on what one to get. :) Also just to add the graphics card (1GB) is -

That's not even a gaming card. I don't think you'd be able to run GTA at medium settings. The best cards for fair price are HD 6850 and 6870 - with the later and i5 750 I can run GTA 4 on high with 35 - 40 FPS at 1920x1080.

How about this card ?

  • 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7730M

Look at benchmark tests for different cards. That will give you a pretty good idea on how well a certain card performs compared to the competitors on the market. Also, the 7730M is for notebooks isn't it?
