Hello everyone 👋

This is Realistic Traffic AI, my custom traffic overhaul plugin for LSPDFR designed to significantly improve civilian driving behavior and create a more immersive patrol experience.

As we all know, default GTA V traffic can feel robotic, unpredictable, and unrealistic — especially during intersections, pursuits, and freeway driving.

This plugin rebuilds civilian behavior logic to create:

  • Smarter intersections

  • Better freeway reactions

  • Realistic emergency yielding

  • Intelligent lane behavior

  • More believable violations

The goal is simple:

👉 Make traffic feel human — not scripted.


🚦 Plugin Features

🚥 Advanced Traffic Light System


🔴 Red Light Behavior

  • Configurable violation percentage (TrafficLightRunPercent)

  • Drivers are assigned their behavior once per vehicle

  • No random frame-by-frame flipping

  • Realistic stopping patterns

Example:

  • 95% stop normally

  • 5% may run the red light


🟡 NEW – Yellow Light Hesitation Logic

Drivers now intelligently decide whether to:

  • Stop safely

  • Continue through the intersection

  • Hesitate briefly

Behavior depends on:

  • Speed

  • Distance to intersection

This removes unrealistic last-second brake slams.


🛣 NEW – Intelligent Lane Merge System

Vehicles now:

  • Detect blocked lanes

  • Merge smoothly

  • Avoid zig-zag behavior

  • Respect cooldown timers

  • React differently at freeway speeds

Traffic flow feels significantly more natural.


🧱 NEW – Obstacle Raycast Braking

AI vehicles now scan ahead for obstacles:

  • Cones

  • Barriers

  • Roadblocks

  • Traffic disruptions

Drivers gradually slow down instead of ramming into objects.

Scan distance automatically increases at higher speeds.


🛣 NEW – Advanced Freeway Behavior

High-speed traffic now:

  • Reacts earlier to hazards

  • Merges more smoothly

  • Maintains consistent cruising speeds

  • Reduces sudden braking chains

Freeway driving feels dramatically improved.


🧠 NEW – Multi-Lane AI Intelligence

Drivers now evaluate:

  • Lane availability

  • Blocked paths

  • Traffic density

  • Environment type (city vs freeway)

This creates more believable, less robotic traffic patterns.


🚨 Improved Emergency Vehicle Yielding

When you activate lights and sirens:

  • Civilians detect you from behind

  • Pull safely toward the shoulder

  • Slow naturally

  • Re-enter traffic smoothly

Realistic unpredictability still exists:

  • Some drivers hesitate

  • Some partially block

  • Some react late

Just like real life.


Customizable Settings

An automatic .ini file is created on first launch.

You can configure:

  • TrafficLightRunPercent

  • EnableLaneChanges

  • EnableTrafficLaw

  • EnableEmergencyMoveOver

  • LaneChangeDistance

  • LaneChangeSpeed

  • LaneChangeCooldown

  • MoveOverDistance

  • MoveOverOffset

This allows you to fine-tune realism vs performance.

📋Notes (LSPDFR)

 

  • If you want Compatibility for Move The F*** Over and ClearTheWay V. Just turn off EnableLaneChanges = True to False and should work. You might need to do EnableTrafficLaw = True to false as well, then at that point I wouldn't have both installed.

  • The RealisticTrafficAI.ini will be generated upon doing ReloadAllPlugins or if you load it up via RPH Console.

As for big truck and such to move out of the way, he can always message RCrw that created Ai Traffic Fluidity which maybe able to show him know to make them move out of way during code 3.

 

Ai Traffic Fluidity is still getting new update, but since the creator are busy in real life, it will take time.

 

But yes, this is a good plugin.

All you would have to do is remove "FLAG_BIG" from the flags portion in the vehicles.meta file to have heavier vehicles pull over when going code

Bug Report:

AI vehicles (including police vehicles conducting normal patrol) will stop randomly like they are stuck when in proximity of you. I have only noticed whilst being stopped with/without my lights being on. There is nothing blocking them, it just happens. Usually 1-3 vehicles at this will happen too. I've tried cleaning up LSPDFR and what not, but it appears it is an issue with this mod. At first I thought it was because I still had ClearTheWayV still installed, but even after removing it, this became a persistent issue

updated notes: it happens to all vehicles, civilian or emergency. For vehicles that are part of a callout actively, or are responding to something, they don't get stuck. however, anything that is naturally roaming gets stuck. I noticed that for SOME of the vehicles (mostly emergency) that get stuck, they can get themselves unstuck after about a minute or so. For vehicles that are leaving a scene, or are released from a scene, they also have the habit of getting stuck. 

some vehicles will just outright de-spawn as a result of this, while other create traffic jam chaos

 

I'll send my log, it appears that it is spamming the RPH console with something related to it

Yeah you might want to take a peak at this log. (My apologies it is long AF). Just scroll toward the bottom, as that is where you'll see the issue for sure, but its spammed throughout the log (note i can post the log here bc of the size, but i'll share it on discord since you're in the TS server

As a note, since we're talking about "realistic" traffic, it is the law in California (and most/all other states AFAIK) that vehicles move to the right when an emergency vehicle is approaching from either direction, including from behind (same direction traffic). So, imo, you should change the pull over direction no matter which lane the car is driving in to pull to the right. I've been yelled at by CHP for pulling to the left from the left-most lane before IRL...

Bro... I have hated how AI behaved in traffic for so long. Especially the stop signs. I have a spot I frequent when bored just to give EVERY SINGLE ONE of them a ticket for running it. This is a king tier mod. Thank you!

the game keeps stuttering after this update, in the previous version, this did not happen. my setup is an r5 5500, with 32gb ddr4 and an rtx 4060

@impliedstoneIf set to True it'll do it. Mb when I said true by accident! If you see numbers like 5, 3,2 over and over in logs. That's just the script registering nearby stopsigns!

@AndreSenaSSSorry to hear that, I'm working on a update soon to fix a lot of bugs and hopefully and remaining crash/low performance issues. Turning up the VehicleScanRange as a FYI higher than 20 could result in FPS Loss. As 20 is the ft around the distance to the player it'll scan each vehicle. Hence why I have it low to prevent FPS Issues!

Hi Guys, Hotfix Coming out in minutes to an hour. Addressing the issues you guys reported. Nothing new has been added, just bug fixes so I can get more feedback and see if all errors you guys are having are fixed, then the Suggestions I'll start implementing. If they are not implemented then I have chosen not to do it as I want what's best for the Plugin!

Its laggy in city. Its like stuttering but only noticable for my eyes. Hard to explain.

I noticed this as well. It's not normal lag / stuttering and I'm also not sure how to explain it. It hurts my eyes though.

For some reason, my motorcycles literally ignore every traffic signal and many vehicles are doing burnouts.  Not sure what's up

For some reason when I am pulled over with my TA on, the AI traffic passes me and immediately make a hard right turn in front of my cruiser. When I uninstall this mod the traffic goes back to normal. Is there a way I can fix this? Maybe if I change: MoveOverEnabled to 0 instead of 1?
