pc overhating after 4 months
M. Miller replied to phoenixpolice's topic in Computers, Technology & Gaming
Do you keep your computer on a desk, or on the floor? Computers are like vacuums, and will suck up anything around them, so if it's on the floor, you might move it up higher, on top of your desk. Also, be extremely careful with a vacuum. Unless it's specifically designed for electronics, there is a significant amount of static buildup on vacuums, and could easily damage or even destroy your computer. -
Is This A BS Legal Claim?
M. Miller replied to HomerS's topic in Law Enforcement, Current Events & Society
We're on the same page - I'm pretty sure they don't want you posting to the internet anything that you've recorded due to liability. I didn't put that in my previous post, my mistake. -
Is This A BS Legal Claim?
M. Miller replied to HomerS's topic in Law Enforcement, Current Events & Society
As you are an explorer and not paid member of the agency, this opens up a can of worms if anything happens, and you happen to film it. It's not only potentially a liability to the department, i.e. it can be used in a lawsuit against the agency, but it can also be used in criminal court. If you violate any laws, such as patient privacy laws, you yourself become liable for damages, as well as the agency itself for knowingly and willfully allowing you to do so. You can have your camera seized, you can be called to testify in a courtroom, both things your department does not want to deal with. Most likely, it's being considered a liability, and because of that, you can't record. Thanks to today's society, every public agency is under extreme constant scrutiny of the general public, looking for any reason to start something, whether or not they have correct or factual information. -
There's actually another issue with this, law enforcement, military, and other government organizations that handle sensitive data do not use WiFi as most people know it. Instead, LAN/WANs are used that have secure VPN tunnels that route back to the agency. These provide fax, phone, video, and other media capabilities. In general, law enforcement is sending and receiving information on an ever increasing level, and much of this information is sensitive, and must be kept secure, not only for privacy, but, also for the safety of then men and women whom we refer to as first responders. Some of this includes information that is labled LES, or, Law Enforcement Sensitive. The information that is transmitted in a "FBI surveillance van" is not going to be public information, the government is going to do a lot to ensure that critical information doesn't fall into the wrong hands. If you search google for "FBI Surveillance Van" you'll find a lot of stories about people who have nothing better to do, and, find humor in labeling their WiFi something stupid. In reality, the US government has extremely strict communication policies, to the point that many, if not most, government agencies can't even use WiFi because their government issued laptops have the WiFi either physically disabled (meaning that the end user wouldn't be able to turn it on, even if they wanted to) or not present on the computer. When, on the rare occasion, they do use WANs, or LANs, they are behind such hardened firewalls and security appliances and encryption, that it is practically impossible to defeat the security. They start by not even letting you know that a network is even there. They're not going to advertise their presence and make themselves a slightly easier target.

If you feel you can do better, then create your own mod. I will certainly be willing to check out your product. With that said, I have first hand knowledge in software development, having worked as an I.T. professional. (MCSA, A+, Network +, and more) Development on the scale of G17's LSPD mod is extremely time consuming, and requires a level of dedication, experience and patience that most people don't even come close to understanding. It's much like having to learn a new language, actually. In fact, it is. There are limitations to the language, and it takes time to learn the ins and outs of the language, but also the workarounds for missing words in the language. Not only have the developers worked hard to create something for all of us to enjoy, but they've done it in their spare time. They aren't being paid for their work. They have lives. They have families. They have jobs. They have other responsibilities. With all of this, they have created a massive mod, with a ton of features. With this long list of features, comes a danger - the possibility that something won't work quite right. This is where testing has come in. It my professional opinion (I was paid for this, for my professional opinion, education, and experience) that the testing that has gone on in the background that you, and others, are unaware of is significant. Something that is developed that is as robust is LSPDFR 0.3 in the short amount of time that it has been developed in, with an unpaid development team, not backed by a massive company pushing it along a development schedule, is very impressive. The list of issues compared to the list of things working properly is fantastic. These individuals have clearly put in a lot of hard work and dedication, and they have clearly done a great job. In my opinion, if the only issues you're having is that AI is acting like a fool, I have one suggestion for you - contact Rockstar support. Without Rockstar, the likelyhood of G17 being able to engineer a product (remember, a free product at that) is practically zero, as they would have had to start from the ground up. They're starting with the limitations that Rockstar's programming of GTA V has, and they're doing the best they can to work around them. Be thankful for what you have. I'm sure the developers don't mind constructive criticism, but to call them out on something that annoys you, and to basically say that what they have, for free, created for people like you to enjoy, and then call their time and work basically as nothing more than garbage, is very inconsiderate of you. I suggest rather than say things such as "I will uninstall this as it makes me mad, makes the game no fun" - you say something positive, and constructive. In my experience, when people are negative about your hard work, it makes it HARDER to improve it, because it does suck the joy out of a project when you hear such negativity. Be positive, be thankful, and be helpful. Suggest something in a positive way, that doesn't have negative impact on their hard work. If you can do a better job than G17, then by all means, give them some healthy competition. Otherwise, be nice.

WIP - speed radar (realistic)
M. Miller replied to rushlink's topic in Script, Ped & File Modifications Showroom
Unfortunately, this mod has been cancelled, or at least put on hold for the foreseeable future. We were planning on implementing this into our RP group, however with Rockstar challenging the developer of FiveM in court, we are no longer interested in developing this further, as this was intended to be part of our group for serious role-play. Rushlink -MAY- release what he has thus far, but development, at least as of now, is cancelled. -
I have my new PC, and it is amazing

From his sig. Not a bad machine, although I am personally fond of machines with more RAM. Not a bad setup, though. -
That is correct - you would specifically have to do something to navigate around the Ragehook plugin's built in safety that prevents online access.
-
You really shouldn't have to worry about being banned, unless it's something that can give you an unfair advantage during online gameplay - such as trainers, money cheats, ect. The majority of trainers (with the exception of online trainers, which, will get you banned, and it would be well deserved) have built in protection that prevent you from going online with the trainers loaded. If in doubt, it's better to be safe than sorry, have a list of the mod files, and remove them before launching GTA V, but that's a little bit overkill if you don't try to use trainers or scripts (such as Ragehook, Scripthook, etc..) online.

PROBLEM WITH CC+2015 IN INSTALL RAGE/LCPDFR
M. Miller replied to OfficerGabriel's topic in LSPDFR 0.3 Support
Make sure you meet the requirements for the 4.6 framework. If you don't meet the requirements, it'll either not let you install, or, error out at some point in the installation. What version of Windows are you running? -
Not a bad build for the price. I'm always a fan of having more wattage available in your PSU, and looking at your selected gfx card, your card is designed to run at a whopping 275 watts, this is a lot. I would look at no less than 850 watt PSUs.

would this be a good computer?
M. Miller replied to OfficerFive0's topic in Computers, Technology & Gaming
I have to agree with what's been said - for a home office, it would do the job. If you're looking for gaming (which clearly you are), that is not going to leave you satisfied. I'm not a fan of AMD CPUs, as they tend to run hotter, heck some of the FX CPUs are practically tiny nuclear reactors. I'd look into i5 or i7 Intel chips, they run cooler which seams to improve system stability. You won't be happy with a 1Gb 750. It's too underpowered for today's games. Don't use less than a 780, and certainly don't get a card that has 2 or less Gb of memory. Steer clear of budget power supplies. They aren't usually as reliable, they can be noisy, and they are not as well built, this can easily damage your computer's sensitive components. In some cases, overloading or overheating power supplies can allow build ups, essentially sending your machine to a date with an electric chair . -
Would this be a decent setup?
M. Miller replied to Ofc. Vic's topic in Computers, Technology & Gaming
Depending upon your CPU, you should be fine. GTA's requirements are for a 9800 GT, If you're doing a 960, I would not be concerned regarding requirements, you should be able to probably run high, perhaps ultra. Depending on if you want to upgrade your machine later, 700 watts might be cutting it close. You might consider getting an upgraded PSU for the same cost by choosing a different case that does not come with one. You might also look into a small SSD, they do significantly decrease loading times. Minimum Requirements for GTA: CPU:Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHzCPU Speed:InfoRAM:4 GBOS:Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 1GB / AMD Radeon HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)Sound Card:YesFree Disk Space:65 GBRecommended Requirements: CPU:Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)CPU Speed:InfoRAM:8 GBOS:Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2GB / AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GBSound Card:YesFree Disk Space:65 GB You're meeting the recommended requirements, very easily. -

From the album: Liberty City Police Department
Liberty City Police Department's Traffic Enforcement Division just after clearing a traffic stop. Normally, we try to have suspects pull over to the right, but the suspect wanted none of that! The suspect was released with a ticket and a court date. -
I might be careful on that one, it could really depend on the agency. For example, US Border Patrol might disassemble your vehicle to prove otherwise.
-
From the album: Liberty City Police Department
The Liberty City Medical Examiner had to be called out for this one! A woman was brutally murdered in the public restrooms down the stairs. The homicide investigation recovered evidence that resulted in the successful prosecution of her killer, who was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. -
These can't be possibly legal for on-road use, but I would love them. It shouldn't be too hard to do, either, but I am curious as to the cost.

talk to pedestrians
M. Miller replied to NYPDDetectiveODonnell's topic in General & Miscellaneous Discussion
Short answer, yes. The bad part is that I don't know for sure how it works. The little that I do know is that it is extremely complicated, and you have to set up word triggers that create a response from the civilian, but yes, it is possible. (Group I am in has been working on this for a little while, but I don't really know the details) -
I have found that often you'll have that issue when a car is bugged: If you change cars, or spawn a new one, it often is fixed - I am assuming you lose your textures when your lighting is activated?
