Statikzx got a reaction from WBRPDProductions in Too much of the same thing.
I am fairly new here and have released a couple skins for cvpi's and my attention turned thanks to WBRPDProductions. He suggested I try my hand at it and I have since decided to have a go at scratch modeling. Time consuming is an understatement (it doesn't help that I have a bit of OCD when it comes to quality). Anyway, I may be one of the summer surprises for release but thats all I will say (hopefully nobody is doing the same, as it's fairly uncommon).

Anyway, back on topic, I never thought twice about the slight variations of the same car being released en masse. I simply weed through and get what I want and leave the rest. That said, I do take issue with the really poorly done items. Really, I have come across a few that there was NO POSSIBLE WAY that the author could have thought it was even remotely good, let alone the community. I mean I can understand starting a thread and getting feedback, updating it and getting more feedback through pictures. Then finally releasing something once the feedback dictates. Maybe that should be a prerequisite for releasing something, starting a thread first.

I have a new found appreciation for the work that modelers do by actually learning to do it myself. I will say that there is no shortage of learning material and tutorials across the internet. TRUST ME!!! I have put the time in to find the answers to my questions (two answers have eluded me and I just went on my gut with quality in mind). I will say if you don't have patience and a will to do this then you might want to move along.

Let me pose this question for this thread. Does it make sense to release a bunch of (currently unavailable) unlocked parts so that there can be more variation (more availability for the 'modifiers') or would it further hurt the community to do so (potentially more garbage releases)?

Lastly, I will leave you with this quote to think about:

After reading Troys post I did a little investigating (and I mean little, it took me longer to write this post than it did to download the file open it in max and take the attached screen) and...

(I am using the Nitro driver so the shading is 'slightly' different from the direct3d one.)

The proper way to go about this would be to say:

    [starts teleprompter]
"No I didn't scratch make it. I found a publicly available file on the interweb and asked for permission to use the file for a conversion project in GTA IV, with proper credit given to all involved. My plan is to make it a usable police vehicle by adding other peoples unlocked parts or asking for modeling help to finish it."
    [closes teleprompter]

Using someone else's work and calling it your own isn't taken very lightly. You should really reconsider how you approach this. Good luck to you, sir.

    Edit: typo

Kudos to making a 'real' effort to learn modeling. This is a good start. Hopefully, the community will see good things from you. I too am trying my hand at modeling and refuse to go the "gluing together" route (stay tuned). Anyway, Keep up the good work and never stop learning.

You have done well so far. At the stage you are on I think wheels would be a fairly easy part for you to make.

The truck is looking great Hilth0!

As for the skins, I was planning on making them myself but with that said, I was also going to include a bunch of different ones upon release. I know it's way into the future but let me know what you want to see come out.

@Statikzx - Thanks a lot. I can honestly say, I am equally surprised as to how the model is coming out. I only registered this program a week ago and I'm already this far. Although I wouldn't be anywhere without the help of everybody here. I suggest giving it a try. The programs only a measly $22 and if you know anything about drafting/engineering then it shouldn't be all that hard to get a hold of. To answer your question, I have no life at all. On weekdays I'll spend around 5-6 hours brainstorming and/or actually drawing it up. On Weekends I'll spend as much time I feel like until I'm tired of working. So probably another 5 or 6 hours combined. Don't expect to be waiting months and months for the finished product. We're working as hard as we can.

WIFI will indeed work, however a wired connection is strongly recommended. Me personally, I would rather run 50 feet of cat.6 across my house than use WIFI but I digress. Depending on your hardware capabilities you may or may not see a performance difference. Regardless, to answer your question, NO you don't have to have a wired connection.
