Silverlake Central Penitentiary often sends inmates for Community Service, and seeing the community service unit around is not uncommon.

Rookie Deputy Steven Mills, found Hanes and confronted him at gunpoint. Hanes then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Mills. Deputy Mills fired and killed the suspect. A very emotional Mills, is surrounded by his fellow deputies after the brief tense moments.
