  1. I've been getting a lot of PM's lately asking what I did so here it goes: No matter what drive you installed GTA IV there will be files on C: as well. Look for folder C:/user/name/AppData/Local/Rockstar Games/ I think theres a conflict between LCPDFR and GTA IV that makes the savefile crash. Those files are located in a subfolder to 'Rockstar Games' above. Try deleting saves ONLY first to see if that gets the game going. If not - uninstall the game using Steam (or other uninstaller if non Steam version) and then delete the entire 'Rockstar Games' folder. When you re-install the game it should work properly! Note: I don't know if the content of the 'Rockstar Games' folder is hidden by default or not. If you can't find it make sure you set Windows to show hidden files/folders.
  2. Sounds more like network issues than CPU/GPU issues. How fast is your Internet connection?
  3. Lol! Blindness usually affect the eyes first! Glad I didn't call you 'english' then!
  4. Solved! There was some GTA IV related files on my C drive that I missed earlier (game being installed on D:). Now GTA IV and LCPDFR works like a charm again! Question: is it common to get corrupted saves with LCPDFR+ELS mods installed?
  5. I don't know where you live Scott but here in Sweden I can get both: custom built PC's with 24/7 support and solid warranties. :)
  6. Look at benchmark tests for different cards. That will give you a pretty good idea on how well a certain card performs compared to the competitors on the market. Also, the 7730M is for notebooks isn't it?
  7. I also say desktop but I'm not 100% sure on the CPU though... A 3570K would be better than a 3450 when it comes to gaming. Buying "ready made" computers such as Dell, Alienware (also Dell but still...) tends to be more expensive than buying a rig from scratch from parts you pick yourself. Im not saying that you should build it, but aren't there companies where you live that delivers custom built computers? To illustrate what I mean: a 3570K isn't much more expensive than a 3450 but its way better for gaming. In the desktop above theres a 2TB HDD. I'd rather go for maybe half that size and spend that money on a better graphics card instead. See what I mean? I'm a Nvidia guy myself but its a matter of taste if you go for GeForce or Radeon cards. Just make sure you get one that WORKS well for games you are going to play. Google benchmark tests for different cards. That will give you a pretty good idea about how well a certain card performs.
  8. Speaking from experience desktops are usually better for gaming than laptops. And video memory isn't the only important here. Also look at the GPU clock speed. I use a MSI GeForce GTX 680 Lightning with 2GB of memory. Out of the box it runs at 1175 Mhz or something like that. I have overclocked it to approx 1300 MHz which made quite a big impact on my FPS in most games. The CPU also affect your framerate and so does RAM size AND speed. As and example there is a difference between a i5 3570 and 3570K processor in terms of game performance. If I were you I'd set a budget for my rig and let that decide if I should go for i3, i5 or i7 processor. Then pick a graphics card that fits my wallet and my gaming needs.
  9. Yesterday GTA IV (Steam version) stopped working. It was fine at one point, running with LCPDFR+ELS (latest versions). Then I took a break and shut my computer down. When I got back I get a CTD as soon as the game starts loading the latest save. To me it sounds like a broken save file or something but even a complete re-install won't fix this. Does the GTA IV Steam version leave hidden traces somewhere on my discs that casuses the problem to re-appear even on fresh installs? If so, how do I find them and where do I look? Any help appreciated! My system in case thats relevant here: Mobo: MSI Z77A-S01 ATX CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K @ 4.2 Ghz RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 Mhz LP 8GB GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 680 Lightning @ 1300 Mhz Corsair Force 3 SSD 120 GB (Contains os/system) Seagate Maximus Hybrid 500/4 GB (contains Steam folders) Windows 7 Home Premium 3dMark11: P10237 My rig is 100% dedicated to gaming so theres no other weird software running in the background other than the ones needed to play. All drivers and software updated to latest stable version! All other games such as Arma II and even GTA EFLC works perfectly.
