While I think prohibiting profanity is a bad idea, that is completely untrue. You can very easily distinguish between a word being alone (such as nip) and a word being part of another (sniper). You're probably wondering why I'm using the word "sniper". I'm using it because it's actually a censored word in GTA online because it contains the letters "nip"... GTA Online is a prime example of what not to do in profanity filters. Differentiating between a sequence of letters being alone by itself and a sequence of letters being part of another sequence of letters is not some new age technology. You've missed a key sentence in that article. It doesn't matter if people try to get around the word filter. Most people, if they see that profanity is blocked, will either not try to circumvent it, or just remove the profanity.
