As the title says, why is pitting a vehicle  basically useless during a pursuit? And is there a way to disable this?

it is not useless, it is used to stop the criminal from driving recklessly around or slow him down and let ur partners take him down while he is slowed down or stopped

90% of the time the AI does, but sometimes I get primary and I want to attempt it, and when I do, it ends up acting like a damn Abrams tank.

there isn't a way to avoid it

unless you install gta 5 redux which includes realistic crashes & physics

or just install a mod with realistic physics and crashes

otherwise i can't find a way around this

Yeah.. I suspected as much, some vehicles do work okay with pits but I guess i'm gonna need to always patrol in a damn bearcat or tahoe or just let the AI do it, guess the latter.
