The New AI Gives Me (good) Chills

Spoiler

I stopped playing GTA V while LSPDFR 0.4 was still being developed. I was exited about the new update when it was announced, but soon after that my lack of interest in GTA V itself caused me to stop following the development of the game. When LSPDFR 0.4 was released, I saw a tweet from FirstThirtyMinutes speaking the release of the update (or it was someone else I don't know) and thought I might as well check it out. I bared the 4 hours it took to download the 80 GB of GTA V, and downloaded LSPDFR.

When I started it, I thought the character system was cool, and whatever, but I wasn't really getting into the game until I got into a pursuit. First thing I noticed, was the Flee AI seemed different, like it was aware of me. I drove up beside the suspect car, and when I moved to push if off the road, the driver started to avoid me and swerve away from me. Once the 2 right tires were in the dirt, the driver rammed the side of my car. I decided the driver was aggressive, and called for backup.

This is where I got said chills. The dispatcher announced my want for help, as always, and some nice officer accepted that call. I saw his blip in front of me, and he followed in front of the pursuit like the cops do in the vanilla game when chasing you (I don’t know if they did this is 0.3b). But then, (I love little detailed in games, like in WD2 if you are heading towards the police helicopter when it prepositions, the pilot says “He’s heading straight for us, he’s making it easy for us!”) I heard my backup say “Dispatch, I have the suspect, moving to engage” and the officer started getting in front of the suspect, blocking him. I said “Oh shit” as I figured out what the officer was trying to do. I moved my car behind the suspect to prevent an escape.

The AI cooperated with me, and we performed a successful box. I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t have happened in 0.3.

Another strike of chills, as I was chasing this guy who was weaving around traffic in the city (I noticed how the AI didn’t slow down to a halt besides traffic anymore) and I called in a few units. They came up behind me, and I started to prepare myself for them to ram me off the road as they always did to me.

Well, I clipped a car and was recovering back into the correct lane, as I looked behind me and prepared for impact, (cue chills) but instead, like the kind, intelligent drivers they are, they slowed down for me. At first I thought it was a coincidence, but I noticed a pattern of them only overtaking me when it’s safe, like if I’m stopped or a couple feet over. I do like how they also speed up to get passed me quickly (other people don’t like their little speed boosts, but I like it when they can actually keep up).

One more, when I noticed pressing N opened a pursuit tactics menu. That was cool, then I played with it for a while and it really enhanced the chases (I mainly just do pursuits, I don’t like most callout mods for being glitchy, using the subtitles only for talking, and lowering my frame rate). I was in a pursuit as the secondary officer. I watched the primary drive up beside the suspect, and as I said “What the hell is he doing?” he pit the suspect perfectly and I moved in to block the suspect against a parked car.

I love the new AI in this update, it revived my interest in this mod. The devs did a great job, and I did also notice that the AI can see objects like street lights and rocks and avoid them (I think they could in 0.3 but I don't know for sure).

I did notice a glitch where if I accept the pursuit callout, the officer who I'm assisting says the engaging in pursuit voice clip as if he/she only just saw the suspect. This probably happens because they are only just spawning, so they actually didn't ever see the suspect before, but it kinda ruins the feeling that an officer in pursuit is actually requiring assistance.

YES! I waited about a week or so to apply 0.4 to my game cause I kept seeing people have issues with it... finally caved today lol and tried it vanilla with no mods it loaded and I created a few characters and tried it for a bit.. only bug I got was going to the robbery callout base LSPDFR vanilla and the game crashed without warning no log thing thought okay thats weird but still new so okay.. turned mods back on thinking it would not work lo and behold without changing anything but the LSPDFR version my mods worked I started adding compatible callouts and it crashes at times but I just reload LSPDFR and get back into it... the flashlight and enhanced AI in pursuits is fantastic!! I also found out that like LCPDFR I approached a guy in a "routine" traffic stop and he tried to ambush me with a pistol lol this update is like a new game. Amazing! I honestly didn't think the ram-hungry OP AI cops could be fixed but they have been completely revamped awesome job LSPDFR Dev Team and a special shoutout to Sam!
