Custom police cars cause buildings and texture pop in. Code 99 need backup!

Featured Replies

Hi had a problem and fixed it. Here is what worked for me, OG post is down below.

CONCLUSION

A fellow officer deciphered my rambling and made a really good video about it. This way please

The fix for prop and buildings pop in was indeed to optimise textures of custom cars but still keep the 4K liveries.  Most of the cars I downloaded from here have questionable texture filesizes. Nevertheless i appreciate everybody who uploads their cars :-----) I just optimised the pngs in photoshop. reduced colors where it made sense, or sometimes resolution ("4K rifle that's inside the car and that can almost never be seen during gameplay and basically consists of 16 colors but comes with a million shades of gray png" I am looking at you)

Game runs like those cars are vanilla cars now. The engine simply couldnt handle the 5 MB laptop when its programmed to handle 100 KB textures. With dithering in photoshop u can drop the filesize quite a bit and the difference isnt really noticeable in game at all. All liveries are still 4K no problem.

I leave this here in case anybody is tired of trying a million different gameconfigs and finally stumbles over my monologue.

Spoiler

UPDATE no2

I took a closer look at all the textures and noticed that most of them a poorly optimized. e.g. the dirt texture has 5 MB. I threw most of the textures into photoshop and optimized the pngs. The dirt texture for example can be reduced to 8 colors without a visual difference ingame and after that the dirt texture has about 300 KB. After optimising I could spawn in 20 backup units with no issue at all. They went apeshit on a poor elderly lady who bumped her car in one of the units though.

I will try to upscale the liveries back to 4K to see if that works.

UPDATE in case anyone has the same issue. I downsampled the liveries of the custom cars down to 50% of their original resolution and that solved the props and buildings pop in when turning the camera. I will further downsample the cars interiors since I rarely play in first person cause I think that will further enable more custom cars.

What my problem was:

Hello,

maybe someone here has had the same issue and can assist me with this. Whenever I install just a single custom police vehicle, distant skyscrapers and some props are disappearing for a second when I look back or turn the camera around. I tried low poly counts, ELS enabled and non ELS cars.

The only pack where it does not happen is the one with ELS enabled vanilla cars that is on here. Now that might sound like a limitation of a low end PC.

Specs:

Intel Xenon E5-2667 v3 @ 3.20 GHZ (8 CPUs)

12 gig ram

nvidia quadro P5000

HDD reading speed is about 500 MB/s

It's a rig from Shadow cloudgaming service.

Maybe if anybody is willing to read through this and try to figure out what the problem could be. I will try to be as detailed as possible. :------) All units, code 99.

I installed LSPDFR 0.4 on a clean steam version of GTA V.

Scripthook latest version is also installed as well as ASI loader from OpenIV.

Mods I am using are as follows :

- Natural Vision Remastered

- Realistic Driving

- Realistic Gunsounds

- Modern Siren

-ELS

Plugins:

-Stop the Ped

-Ultimate Backup

-The callouts that are available for 0.4 as of now

I tried different gameconfigs, heap adjuster and packfile limit adjuster mod that comes with some of them.

The game runs fine, no crashes or anything. I installed everything after careful reading of the readme files.

I tried to replace cars and also to add cars. Both ways, they spawn just fine, but the pop in gets worse and worse. Starting with traffic lights and ending in whole skyscrapers popping in while lookin around.

Thanks to anyone who reads through this and can wrap his or her mind around this. SMOOCHES

How I am installing the cars (in case I am messing something up there):

- The tutorials state that I have to put the cars into the mods folder. Latest patchday folder.

- I opened it with OpenIV, but the patchday directories where not in the mods dlcpath folder.

- So i navigated to said path in the updates folder. From where OpenIV copied the latest patchday folder into the mods folder.

- I dropped the downloaded cop car into the mods folder, the ELS file where it belongs, meta file was not needed.

- Loaded the game. Car is there but textures where messed up.

- Found out that this is due NaturalVisionRemastered since it edits car textures. (Stated in documentation of NaturalVisionRemastered)

- Navigated to the emissive folder where they are stored and deleted the file that corresponds with the replaced cop car (in that case police1)

- Loaded the game. Car is there, texture works.

- Went on duty, and the pop in of distant buildings and some props (like parts of bridges and vents or billboards on rooftops) are beginning to pop in when I look back or turn the camera.

Are you 100% sure it is custom vehicles related?  Have you removed all custom vehicles and tried playing with vanilla cars?

This implies a few things.

Either

1) The specific cars you're trying to use are

  • High poly
  • Have liveries that are too high of quality

In addition to the above, depending on where you are trying to patrol, there might be too many police vehicles loaded, hence the texture loss.

2) Your PC just can't handle the modded cars.

I need donations to help fund my food addiction. DM for details 😂

Thanks for your input! I am reinstalling custom cars as of right now. Got 2 working now, spawned a lot of backup and no problem. I am thinking that the problem is with +hi texture files. If modded cars are not replacing them, they might cause issues if I dont delete the vanilla one. Dont ask me why, but I was always replacing police2 to try the cars for some reason and the vanilla ones have the +hi texture dictionary for police2. Just installed to police and fbi, they don't have them and it works just fine.

I mean people on the internet (I know I know...) state that they add countless modded cars to the game and that it works. So that's why I thought it must be strange that the PC i am using (see specs) cant handle 1 custom car.

I am focusing on the +hi files now and see if that really was the issue.

Thanks so far :----)
