Why do my police lights look like this?

Compared to any other media, such as:

I use Radiance V (but I previously sued Realistic Radiance and had the same effect) and ELS. I've tried it with various different mods. Any idea why my lights look so bare. Day and night are like this.

The lights are supposed to be red/blue. Something with my lighting is really messed up.

Edit: The lights look more proper at distance but when I'm close they look like this. For example the unmarked in the last picture up close has more like light blue and yellow lights up close but at a distance they flash red and blue properly.

Make sure that in your graphics settings, your PostFX and Shader Quality are both set to "High" or "Ultra".

Yep. That's showing a lot better.

Except the unmarked seems to show weird. In the days the lights are more blue/yellowish. And at a distance, the lights actually swap so the red becomes blue and the blue becomes red.

This is probably just the way the ELS/model was made, yeah? The CVPI is consistent and the red and blue is correct on both day and night.

That can be fixed by going into the ELS configuration file (ELS.ini). Once you open ELS.ini, scroll to the "[GENERAL]" subheading. You will see "ElsMaxRangePl", which controls the distance of your car's lights, and "ElsMaxRangeAi", which deals with the AI's police cars. Change the numbers on the right of the equal sign to a greater value. For example, My ElsMaxRangePl is set to 5000. If that wasn't good enough for me, I'd try 8000 or 10000.

Same issue. Day shows more red and blue properly now. But yeah it still flips sides on the lights when I get to a certain distance. It's not a tragic issue, but wondering if its more an issue with this car model/ELS or a settings thing.

The flipped colors is a VCF issue. I had the same issue with an unmarked Explorer. It had a red/blue light bar but at a distance the red went away and made it look like a blue/blue light bar.

I'm not at my computer right now but here is the best I can do to explain how to fix this.

In the police garage, where you can select the extras on/off, cycle through and find out which number extra is the lights showing wrong color. Once you find those numbers, open the VCF for the car in notepad (I recommend Notepad++, it's colorful and easier on the eyes to distinguish where you're typing).

Once in there, near the top will be a list of the extras. Find the number extras you're looking for. So for example if it's extras 1 and 4 that are your problem, find the lines of extras 1 and 4. Under the color tag (dont know the exact line name), change the color to the opposite (since you're having a problem of flipped colors). So example: if extra 1 is blue then change it to red. Same of the other extra.

Worst comes to worst, if you can't find what extras are giving you problems, then make a backup of your VCF and just play with the colors of the extras until you get it.

I'll 100% confirm this fixed my issue with the red lights showing blue from a distance. It had appeared the author of the vehicle I was using just used someone else's VCF or has other models that have just blue lights and forgot to change it.

Side hint, this is the same location you can go to set the permanent light patterns for your vehicle. So if you find yourself hating the patterns, in game you can remember the number of the patterns you like for WRN, SEC and PRM and change them in the VCF. That way Everytime you use that vehicle, it'll be on the pattern you like. You can also change settings for patterns on different siren tones, horn and if you're out of the vehicle. Basically customizing how you want your vehicle to look.

Digital HD is right. That should fix it, because that's what controls the lighting.

This absolutely was it. I've managed to get it all working except one of my vehicles has an issue where if I exit the vehicle with the lights on, the front lights become static and don't flash anymore until I enter the vehicle again. The back lights flash properly. Any idea what causes this and what I should edit in its VCF to fix?

Might be an issue with the VCF.

For each of your lights (WRNL, SECL, and PRML), find the section that says "Forced Patterns".

Spoiler

    <!-- WRNL -->
    <WRNL LightingFormat="leds" >
        <PresetPatterns>
            <Lstg2 Enabled="true" Pattern="0" />
            <Lstg3 Enabled="true" Pattern="15" />
        </PresetPatterns>
        <ForcedPatterns>
            <MainHorn Enabled="false" Pattern="140" />
            <SrnTone1 Enabled="false" Pattern="11" />
            <SrnTone2 Enabled="false" Pattern="11" />
            <SrnTone3 Enabled="false" Pattern="11" />
            <SrnTone4 Enabled="false" Pattern="0" />
            <PanicMde Enabled="false" Pattern="0" />
            <OutOfVeh Enabled="true" Pattern="0" />
        </ForcedPatterns>
        <ScanPatternCustomPool Enabled="false" Sequential="true" >
            <Pattern>0</Pattern>
            <Pattern>0</Pattern>
            <Pattern>0</Pattern>
        </ScanPatternCustomPool>
    </WRNL>

Look for OutOfVeh, if they are set to true then try changing them to false. That's a forced pattern for whenever you exit the vehicle...or change the numbers to whatever pattern number you like. For me, I like changing the OutOfVeh patterns to be slowed down patterns instead of fast flashing. For you, one or two of those patterns for OutOfVeh is staying as a steady burn light.

Ah, I found em. I fixed it for the one car it was actually an issue for. I learned last night that LAPD slicktops have a steady burn red on the front intentionally and that light patterns stay static on the front side for CHP vehicles (as far as I know). But the one that was incorrect now flashes properly when it's supposed to.

Thank you so much for your help and info about ELS!

No problem at all. Most of the info I gave you, I figured out myself from just browsing and trying things out. So glad my knowledge could be passed on 🙂
