Cyan told me that it's possible to enable it, but IPB 4.0 uses a strange login token/memory system compared to earlier versions and other forum software, meaning that it would be entirely inaccurate due to the way it works. 

 

The way I perceive it, someone that could've been offline for more than 20 minutes may no longer be viewing the topic. Or they could be on more than one device, with two login tokens and the display would be inaccurate as a result. 

For this reason, it's currently disabled. 

Again, this is what I vaguely remember from a while back. You'd have to ask @Cyan for more clarification.
