Responding

Featured Replies

There is this police game in development called Responding. It is being created by a former EmergeNYC developer under the name of Visionary Studios. It first started off as a Unity project, but it is now being developed on the UE4 engine. Last thing, Visionary Studios had some drama with Wingman Games more than a year ago.

Thoughts?

Visionary Studios only consists of one guy

*Rolls eyes*

Oh joy, another crappy no name developer wanting to make a good police sim but actually won't.

Only question is, what exactly will this game turn out like?  Enforcer?  Flashing Lights?  Yeah, no thanks, and no faith.  Until a big named developer takes on a police game, I'm going to continue shaking my head at this crap.

I'm calling it now:

1) This game will not make it at all.

2)  It will be discovered that "Visionary Studio" is using an asset or two from EmergeNYC and everything will be gone in an instant.

3) Studio eventually closes because it's 1 guy.  I present, Enforcer, who only had one developer.

I need donations to help fund my food addiction. DM for details 😂

Enforcer did not have one dev. Odin Game Studio was made up of multiple people before it closed down. Also, the Excalibur Games that published Flashing Lights has different people (those different people published Jalopy, a popular car game) from the one that published Enforcer. Why should we limit police game development to mods and AAA studios? Many indie studios have published phenomenal games such as SCUM. Look at This Is The Police 2; that game  vastly improved the mechanics the  original had and added new gameplay elements . So what if some indie studios develop crap police games and vaporware? The freedom of indie development allows many gems to shine. With indie development, there will always be a diamond in the rough.

OGS may of had a few people, but only one guy worked on Enforcer.  I used to moderate their Steam forums back when Enforcer first came out.  Reel Big Kris, who was with Excalibur, confirmed this with me, and I had spoken with the lone developer previously on Steam.  It honestly doesn't matter who develops what, if it's by a no name developer and a small studio, it won't be successful at all, and will be garbage.  Flashing Lights may have some nice features with EMS, but it's still going to be a crappy game that looks like one you'd find on the Fisher Price website.  The reason we should limit it to only Triple A devs is exactly the reason we are in now: NONE, absolutely none of the police games that have been released have been any good.  Triple A devs may charge us $60, but at least we know we'll get our monies worth.  Enforcer, Autobahn police sim, Flashing Lights, all of these games by no name devs and the games are crap.

I have zero faith in any of these developers.  There are plenty of Indie games that I love, but these Indie devs should never again touch emergency based games.  The only GOOD law enforcement game thus far is EmergeNYC, and that game doesn't even have any law enforcement playability aside from the cars.  I truly am happy to see other people that are excited for law enforcement based games, but I wish more people would open their eyes and realize this is a never ending trend of developers making bad games because people will always buy them.

The problem is that no AAA studio has properly touched the police genre for the last five years. Only game I can think of is  LA Noire and that was in development before Rockstar took control. Battlefield Hardline was pretty much a reskinned Battlefield 3 with a police aesthetic. Unless Rockstar, CD Projekt Red, or even Sierra Games (unlikely) somehow plan to create a police simulator or SWAT game,  mods and the indie scene are all we have right now. Going a bit off-topic, I am actually excited for Police Simulator 18, and I believe it will be released by the end of 2018. Astragon has delayed the release in order  to let Bigmoon Studios  implement community feedback and  fix bugs. Bigmoon is also not that no-name since they developed  Dakar 18 (a racing game recreation of the Dakar Rally published by Deep Silver). Astragon's recent releases (Bus Simulator 18, for example) also  have more positive ratings than negative ones on Steam. Jeff Favignano and Bay Are Buggs enjoyed Bus Simulator 18 as well.

As a developer myself, I think I'll have to agree with Giordano. Making a quality product takes a team of people. While there's no doubt there are games mad by individuals, they're usually fairly simplistic in their construction (2D art, with some basic-ish back-end). These are usually skills that the developer already has, like this person. But as soon as he runs into anything that's not really his area of specialty, development will slow really quickly.

Unless a developer is making a program that falls within the remits of his/her skills, progress will be slow in other areas (which has the buffalo effect on everything else).

That's my two cents anyway.

Please quote or @Wilhelm me in threads if you're wanting my attention/response!

I'm actually fairly happy seeing this show up here as this is one of the places I've spend a lot of time back in the day and it being a gigantic influence for myself and Responding

Sadly it has been quite the shit show with this genre of gaming, with the big studios not having financial interest in what is currently a fairly small market we won't be seeing any AAA titles any time soon.

To start of, a friend of mine formerly known as AdamB910 and I were the development team for EmergeNYC, after some events happening behind the scenes and us not agreeing to the direction the game was heading we split to start Responding, to develop the game we both dreamed of. Unfortunately fairly soon in the journey Adam had to leave myself behind to focus on his busy school schedule.

With that said I've been working day in day out on Responding and like @WillUnderscore stated, I've had to run past my expertise many times (originally being a 3d modeler) but was able to learn fairly quickly due to the incredible documents of Unreal Engine 4 and the vast information the internet holds.

Now it has never been the plan to finish this project alone as this would take me several years to complete while maintaining a GTA quality world and with myself wanting to play a game like this for several years this was not a solution, I'm currently working towards getting the content that resembles the essence of Responding while also negotiating with publishers for help so i can ultimately create the experience I envision in a timely fashion

This is an extremely ambitious project which i'm honestly never willing to let go, I've also been debating to reach out to some of the extremely talented people that are actively creating mods for the GTA series but I've been wanting to get more content out before reaching out.

Thank you @Westcoaster for your support and spreading the word, it means a lot!

There have been a lot of incredible Indie games and I want to prove this can be part of this list!

This project is still very much a work in progress but starting to look decent, the game also has a live test branch for supporters to find bugs and suggest game mechanics.
