Alright, lets do it like this just to verify something.   Go into your mods folder, delete everything.   Now, go and copy the update section and add in the HazardHound config.

Almost exactly like this:

am trying radiance v atm

Radiance V didnt seem to do anything

When you have radiance V, replace your visualsettings.dat with the one in this thread. The post in question is the 3rd one from the bottom and it's the file that I use.

Be sure to let us know how you get on!

Thanks trying that now, turns out I was editing the wrong file earlier.

Side note, do you have any suggestions learning ELS? Looking at the docs is like information overload!

Glitter text for dramatic effect only.

Yes, thats all I mean. Just lots of controls it seems. Also, do you have a favorite(s) vehicle?

As for favourite vehicles, I quite like the LSPD pack I have attached to this post. The lighting looks fab and it's probably the best emergency lighting I've seen in GTA because it gets use out of pretty much every feature of ELS.

As for the controls, the main ones I use for keyboard is J to cycle through lighting patterns, numbers above the qwerty line for the siren selection and [ to toggle your cruise lights (non moving emergency lights). Y for the bullhorn. K and L to toggle secondary and warning lights.

I actually use an XBOX controller so for that the D-pad down toggles the siren when all the lights are on, D-pad left cycles through lights and D-pad right toggles the takedown lights. I think ] is the takedowns on keyboard but you'll have to try it out.

ELS is an amazing mod and you shouldn't have any problems getting used to the controls.

Hope this helps

I seem to be struggling, I press J and I get the road advisory lights on the back and a single red light on the front bar.

That's the warning lights, then press j again to toggle to stage 2 and again for stage 3. There are usually 3 stages, and pressing j will toggle between stage1,2,3 and off.

Okay I'm getting it, I found out how to change flash patterns of headlights, and taillights..etc

The only thing that seems slow now is  the light bar. I have it in S-3 and the flashing seems kind of slow.

The only thing I can think of is changing the patterns. If you press ctrl + P (I think) you'll get an ELS dashboard. Pressing the keys u, i and o will change the patterns of the warning, secondary and primary lights and you should see the numbers change on the ELS dashboard.
