Laptop Question

Featured Replies

Hey guys, Do you think my laptop i bought mostly for when i am travelling will run GTA IV? with some mods,

Specs:

Intel Core i5 2430m @ 3 Ghz

Nvidia GT540M 1GB Up to 2741 MB Turbo Cache.

8 GB DDR3 Memmory,

Let me know! :)

Your processor is a 2.4ghz, not a 3.0ghz.

Turbo on that processor is 3.0ghz - not a sustainable speed.

It'll run it... But not very well.

I am running gta4 on a top of the line laptop with the fastest mobile I7, and a 2tb nvidia graphics card in it... still sucks compared to my desktop (i5 2500k with nvidia 1tb card)

Its always running at 2.7 Ghz and when it needs its at 3 ghz i always have it on max performance,

Its just for the fun ill test it out. Normally i run gta on 2 quad cores 1 i7 and 1 amd phenom got 2 homes.

Okay......

Intel has two clock speeds posted for their I series processors...

The base clock and the Turbo clock.

Based on your current workload the processor will adjust and run faster (up to and until the processor deems it more efficiant to run at a slower speed or the temperature becomes too high(which isn't a problem with intel really)).

Since 90% of the 'boost' is based on your current workload, the fact that you stated you are ALWAYS running at 2.7 shows me that you have a faily processor intensive setup already. GtaIV will most likely not manage to run on that setup. Now... If you were constantly running at your base 2.4ghz you might have a chance of running it smoothly, as your processor has much more room to increase its clock speed.

Your laptop will not sustain 3.0 ghz for very long - maybe an hour maximum.

And are you tryng to say you have all of those processors in one computer? i was confused by your last sentence

No i said i have 2 other rigs for gta, Thats what i ment.

The load is about 6% and its still going 2.8 so its just on max performance.

But we will find out i am installing now thanks anyway

Nice website. :) that'll definitely come in handy.

This thread reminded me of why i dont like the internet. Kids posting a question and then when you tell them 'no' or the opposite of what they "want to hear" they just say "i'm sure it will work" or "well i'll get another opinion". Man...... so glad i dont have kids.

As i said in my first post...

It'll work.

Will it run well? ... no.

Desktop cpu's and mobile CPU's are totally different. Current desktop I3's will run curcles around I7's from 2 years ago in terms of 'actual preformance'

Oh and your windows "settings" have no effect on the current clock speed. The clock speed is controlled by the processor (in the I series). It can be modified, but windows does not modify it through the 'settings' that you have selected.

The CPU will only increase the clock speed if and when it is determined that you need that 'extra' boost. Aparantly when your system is idiling your CPU has determined that 2.4ghz is not sufficiant to run your pc.

If they have the computer in hand, i tell them go there and see.

USUALLY...anything made after the game itself will run it I say usually because my desktop, was made after the game yet it played gta...but....it would take a full 5 seconds for the game to respond to any input, i dropped in a new PSU and GFX card and its running well
