You can download traffic flow mod and edit what spawns ingame and what doesn't

I prefer Traffic Load; still loads around 20 car models, but isn't hard limited by a set of specific cars.

Granted, I don't use anything other than modified default models, but it still gives me a larger variety than the unmodified game.
