Rockstar Games and their New Release Cycle

Recommended Posts

This is something that's been a little troublesome for me.

Before GTA V was released, Rockstar would release amazing AAA games on a yearly basis.

In 2007 we had Manhunt 2, in 2008 we had Grand Theft Auto IV and Midnight Club: LA, in 2009 we had EFLC, in 2010 we had Red Dead Redemption, in 2011 we had L.A. Noire, in 2012 we had Max Payne 3, and in 2013 we had GTA V. After GTA V, it all changed.  Now it's been nearly 5 years since R* have released a new AAA game. That's half a decade. Ports and remasters don't count.

What's going on? Surely GTA Online isn't generating as much profit as releasing a new AAA game yearly would. And surely they're still developing games for the same amount of time, if anything modern game development tools shorten the development cycle.

Ubisoft and many other companies are still able to release AAA games on a yearly basis, proving that it's still feasible and profitable.

Either Rockstar is working very heard on GTA VI or they are trying to milk every last little cent from GTAO.  My money is on the latter.

I need donations to help fund my food addiction. DM for details 😂
