Arrow board proper setup in Zmodeler

Featured Replies

Hello,

So im trying to tackle a els working arrow board for a vehicle model but have ran into an issue with it.

Im trying to put it on a tow truck, the tow truck model itself didnt come with a boot dummy so what I did is took the bonnet one, made a copy of only the dummy and moved it into the rotating spot and rotated the dummy 180 degrees so it will open the proper way. According to the els documents i changed the dummy as well to a solid box instead of a cylinder.

After compounding it with the mesh i want to rotate on this I renamed the arrowboard to boot. I setup the els file to identify the arrow board with boot as well.

However when i go in game and I activate the arrow board funtion i can hear it working  and the board light on the els panel lights up that its been activated however the mesh is not moving in any direction.

Can someone tell me what step im missing? I have the dummy rotating on the x axis which I beleive is correct and I have the mesh itself sitting in the lowered position. Is it from using a component name that doesnt come on the model originally? These were some of the things I was gonna test to troubleshoot it when I got home today but I was hoping someone here might know before I go through all of that what Im missing lol.

Thanks

I've found this issue too, on an FPIU however, and with the bonnet ID. Rotated it like you did, assigned it the correct name in moth Z3D and ELS.

I've found that the 'sound' you hear is in fact the correct sound as the 'part' is supposedly moving in game, but differently, that I found the arrowboard moved when the 'boot' was opened, not the bonnet. It also opened the wrong way. Quite bizarre.

If you figure it out, do post it here so we all can use it?

we have figured this out, by creating a spherical dummy and assign to boot or bonnet, compound your mesh

set your Flags AE | RotX 0,0 | RotY 0,-71 | RotZ0,0

set dummy to non solid, green color and to rotate on whatever axis you want it to rotate on, set the degress of rotation in the Flags Section

test in game, you may need to tweek -71 is normal door rotation, takes some tweeking. if you get lost review any video on door rotations.

on the old bonnet or boot you are replacing, you should rename this, and change the properties of the dummy so it doesn't rotate freely in game, now that you have disabled the current bonnet or hood.

your extra 9 to 7 must be in the sub hierarchy of boot or bonnet so lights rotate when the board rotates.

set  your els vcf to bonnet and this should rotate the board.

heres the vehicle i used this on

and the  snow plows rotate this way too

Hello,

if you don’t mind, I have a couple questions.

firstly do you have to use the mount to have the arrow board rotated?

secondly based on the first question, I’m trying to make an accurate arrow board and if I attach rods to the arrow board could I use where they touch the roof as a pivot point?

thirdly could I use the generic arrow board ( the typical arrow) to replace this one, and have it work the same?

thank you
