How to use Mod Cars without Scripthook?

Featured Replies

Hello, firstly I would like to say I am not new to the modding scene. I have been learning to install mods and make them work with games like the NFS series, Battlefield Series, GTA Series, Star Wars EAW and many others, I don't make my own but I know my way around. So my problem is I can't seem to figure out how to have added cars in GTA V and make them work without scripthook. Before the latest update I had a bunch of cars replaced and working in my mods folder. Now I can't seem to get them to load no matter what I have tried so far, the game will launch and work just fine but it won't load the modded cars, instead it loads the original ones. I know that the OpenIV.asi was important to that working but there has got to be another way, maybe a RAGEHOOK plugin or something, or some way for the game to not freak out when I change the rpf files.  Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

ScriptHookV is not needed at all for modded cars.  Why is it you don't want to use OpenIV.asi?

Well it requires an ASI loader to run, those require Scripthook, so until there is an update its broken I am assuming, unless there is an alterative way of making it work. Like I said, ever since the update my cars in the mods folder no longer load, only the original cars do. I am assuming OpenIV.asi is whats needed to point to those files, and without ASI and Scripthook that won't work. So how can I get my custom cars to load?

In OpenIV, go to tools-->ASI Manager.  Make sure both of these are installed.  Next, remember, with this GTA update came a brand new patchday, which includes a new vehicles.rpf.  You'g going to need to move all of your modded vehicles to the latest patchday.

I know about the OpenIV ASI stuff, but with the patchday part, are you saying I have to put all my new vehicles in the rpf that is in the 'patchday16ng' folder? Even though the files to the car I am replacing are not originally there?

I apologize, I was actually not aware ScriptHookV doubled as an ASI loader.  I assumed the "ASIloeader"in OpenIV did that.   Until ScriptHookV is updated, your modded files won't work.  That said, with the way Rockstar has it configured now, modded vehicles do have to be in the latest patchday (patchday16) in order to work.  You can wait for SHV to update and see if it works.

Also, have you updated the update.rpf in the mods folder?

No worries man, I have been working on this for a few days now lol. I was just hoping there was some kind of workaround, another way of doing it. Updating the update.rpf in the mods folder is putting the new one from the update folder in right? And also, just to be clear, when I do get it working I have to just put each car in patchday16 now right? Even tho I am only replacing?

Yes, you'll need to delete the update.rpf in the mods folder, then go to the vanilla update.rpf and copy it over.  Yep!  Just put them in patchday16's vehicles.rpf. :)

Are you running the latest version of OpenIV and GTA V?

Could someone please explain to me all this talk about HAVING to use the latest patchday for modded cars? I have never used the latest patchday, I use my own basefolder and all my cars work as they should, so I am a little confused to say the least.

Previously, you could use different patchdays for modded vehicles, such as patchday3.  At some point, Rockstar changed how things worked (either intentionally or not) and it affected mods in that you have to use the latest patchday with a vehicles.rpf when replacing.  I guess if you use one single folder for everything instead of different patchdays and DLCs it can work that way.

Didn't know that, yes I have my own folders for modded cars, a police folder for police cars and uk folder for uk cars ect, so I never have to move cars around after updates... Thanks for the info

I still use the same patchday folders since modding began....I don't have to use the latest patchday so not sure how its affecting some people....it baffles me but it should still work regardless of the updated ones I use x64e, patchday 2,3, and 4

Well I reinstalled the game and readded my cars and Rgaehook and it worked, I could have the cars in either the x64e and the old patchdays or just put them all in patchday16. Then I noticed Scripthook just got updated, now my challenge is I cannot seem to get the ragehook console to open on a different key then F4 so that I can use the scripthook trainer
