Modifying carvariations and/or vehicles.meta to get Sheriff2 to work

So a while back I had made a Tahoe model and utilized it in the Sheriff 2 slot, issue was that it would immediately cause game crash when spawning for other users.  I realized I had not included a carvariations or vehicles.meta and confirmed it was one of those two causing the crash.  I gave up on it due to lack of support when I originally asked for assistance, so I will try again.
Which ones do I need to modify and how do I modify them to get the vehicle working in the Sheriff 2 slot?  Also yes, this is an ELS model.

The crash error was "err_failure_str3" too.

Hi. If I understand it correctly you don't actually have to change carvar and vehicle meta when you replace an existing vehicle. The only problem should be wrong handling and perhaps weird lights. And those problems can be fixed later. It shouldn't be causing a crash. Correct me if I am wrong fellas. 

 

Where have you installed your sheriff2 if I may ask?

I had installed it into one of the patchday folders, I had no issues until I reverted to unmodified carvariations and vehicle metas since people were saying it was causing their games to crash and sure enough I ended up having the same issue.

All right. I do know from personal experience that a typo in those files can cause a mess. Maybe something like that can cause your issue?

I doubt it, I feel like there was something within the meta or carvariations that made the vehicle work.

If I read right, you made your own vehicles.meta and carvariations for the Tahoe, correct?  Have you tried using a vanilla (game based) vehicles.meta?  The carvariations are hard coded into the game and don't need to be changed unless the vehicle specifically calls for it.

No, I originally utilized those files from other vehicles I had downloaded, when I reverted to the vanilla files the vehicle would crash the game when loaded.

That sounds like it might be more with the model.  Just to verify, take a working vehicle meta line, say from the POLICE slot, and replace over the slot you're trying to use the Tahoe in.  Rename that line to your Tahoe.  Now try spawning the vehicle.  If it still crashes - assuming you're using an added carvariations line - that might be the cause.  Try removing that as well.

Annd can't launch game because it automatically updated, guess gotta wait for SHV and RPH to update before I can test.

Well hopefully it gets updated soon.  Just started getting back into vehicle mods, had a decent amount of experience with GTA IV and a lot of unreleased cars because I just kept adding or changing them all the time giving them new features.  Hopefully once I figure this out I can release this truck because I spent probably a solid week on it with changing things, adding new stuff, and adding some neat features.

I envy you for getting anywhere with making vehicles.  I can't learn C#, and I imagine making vehicles, especially ELS ones, would be just as bad.  I'll just stick with adding in a hundred standalone cars to my game.  :tongue:

I thought so too until I started doing it, most of my time is spent configuring the ELS settings and making sure that the lights aren't floating and stuff isn't out of place in game.  
Now stuff like this with actual coding is where I get stuck up on.
Actual issues with the model I can fix most of the time.

I found the update changed carvariations.meta to carvariations.ymt, which means any mods based on carvariations.meta will cause errors, so I have some functions not work with previous carvariations version.
