Trying to roleplay with backup units. Few questions about calling backup.

Featured Replies

Hey there.

I have been trying to figure out how many units would respond/be needed in different scenarios and using that information when playing LSPDFR. I know things vary from different places and the amount of officers available. I assume calling for backup in most cases is a "using your head" thing. I have my game as realistic as It can be and with custom backup the response times are much better and realistic. I want to add to this by calling in the realistic amount for each incident. Below are some I am confused about but anything in general would also help me.

Wanted person: If there is a vehicle that has been identified lets say for LSPDFR sake via the "traffic cameras", how many units would respond to a wanted felon in a vehicle. A similar scenario, what happens if you pull someone over for a traffic offence and whilst running their plate/information they come back with warrants. As you are on scene by "yourself" how many units would you want before you went in for the arrest? The person would probably know about the warrants and might try to do something whilst you are by yourself so you cant stall them forever.

Vehicle Pursuit: How many units would normally be involved in your typical pursuit. I assume that a wanted felon pursuit would require more officers then usual.

Officer involved shooting: From what I can tell basically an unit that is not busy with a serious call responds. But do any tactical police respond or is it all handled by the typical LEO?

These are some of the scenarios I need clarification on. Sorry if these seem obvious to you but where I am from the police are much different to USA police. Pursuits basically never happen and when they do the police cant "chase" them they can only follow via helicopter and have units in the area waiting for the vehicle to stop.

Thanks for reading.

1) Most of the time you're going to wait for one or two backup units depending on the situation.  I have never seen a felony stop where they have five or more units on scene.

2)  That has so many factors involved and you're going to get multiple different answers.  In Cali, you'll often see 5-6 units in a pursuit, where as in some other state they'll keep it to three units max.  The situation is also a huge factor.  If it's just someone running and they aren't being reckless, you and one other unit should be good enough.  If the person is very erratic, all over the road, hitting other cars and being a speed demon, that one would be three-four units + an air unit.

3) Tactical units/SWAT typically won't get involved unless it's a serious situation, such as the shooter barricading himself in a residence, establishment, etc.  Most of the time other patrol officers just swarm the area and handle the situation themselves.  A lot of departments don't have a dedicated  SWAT/tac team, and will require on-duty or off duty officers to come in and fill that role.  Due to this, it might take a while before SWAT is even able to get on scene.

Thanks very much for your response. This give me a lot of useful insight that I didn't have before.

You're welcome. :)   Ultimately, you can play the game how you wish.  If you want it to be similar to where you live and the procedures there, go for it!  If you want to try American vehicles/uniforms, go right ahead!

Ha ha, I imagined for a second roleplaying lspdfr under our local procedures. For starters that would involve responding to most calls with a 40 minutes delay.

Like @Caramel, being concerned with procedures, I was also confused with things like "suspended license", "revoked license", "expired license" and whether those are arrestable/towable offences, as I also wanted to play it the legit way.

Driving on suspended is definitely an arrestable offense, as they should not be driving and know this.   Revoked license:

Most states revoke the licenses of motorists convicted of driving with a suspended driver's license. The following violations can get your driver's license revoked, but typically only after multiple convictions or for particularly serious offenses: Driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

Driving on an expired generally will get you a verbal warning, but those who continue to drive on expired will get tickets.  I imagine at some point their punishment will be ramped up.
