Update about the Konstanz shooting: the attacker used a M4/CAR 15 Assault Rifle and the Police say it was a personal reason of the Attacker and not Terroristic(he has a quarrel with the Night Club Owner)

Regarding the Airsoft story (again, in German, can't read it), it doesn't surprise me people would call it in.  Most people, myself included, have covered the orange tips.  Even if the orange tips were uncovered, Airsoft guns do look real.  I'm a collector of them, and can tell you they are probably one of the best in terms of replica weapons.  (the high quality ones, anyway)

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.  Yes, they are teenagers, but they should know better.   I could be a bit more understanding if they were playing Airsoft, but pranks?  It's not a prank to scare the shit out of people and incite mass panic.

like ten years ago, when I was a kid and we played Vietnam War in one of our southern towns, none of our airsofts even had orange tips to begin with :D I was the only proud M16 owner, so I was representing the Marines while others chimed in as Soviets or locals. There were some civilian casualties... A window or two shattered... UN (my grandma) was not pleased.

Detaining and interrogating insurgents was the fun part as well.

Geez, you made me remember the good times :D

What is a Orange Tips?

Orange tips are required in a lot of US sates (if not all? ) for actual toy guns (such as the ones you buy for little kids) and Airsoft guns to  easily help law enforcement and the general public identify them as "toys" (even though that isn't the correct term for Airsoft), and not real guns.  Though, you can still buy flash hiders that cover the orange tip.

The Orange Tips is a Good Idea

It is. Unfortunately a lot of people judge smart to remove those orange tips for whatever reason, which blurs the line between real and fake weapon (especially with airsoft guns that are almost perfect replicas of real weapons).

I have removed the orange tips on mine, and always will.  The orange tip makes them look so ugly.  The problem is that a lot of idiots don't take the proper precautions to make sure no one sees the weapon or is able to mistake it as being real.  If you're just a collector of Airsoft guns, who cares if you remove the orange tip.  You're not waving it around outside.  The people who play Airsoft and remove the orange tip are usually the ones that get called in because they carry it out in public to their car, from their car, etc, and don't wait until they get onto the actual Airsoft field.

I hear ya, and I can imagine that an orange tip on your weapon is like waving a neon orange flag to signal your position when you're playing an airsoft game. But the best would be to just switch between the two, rather than getting rid of the orange tip entirely. When your weapon is with you but you're not using it, orange tip. When you get to play a game somewhere, you switch it for a black tip. Seems like the best compromise to me.
