There is a pack that I like. Specifically, it is the LSPD Pack (ELS) v4.0 by thegreathah. Problem is that some of the vehicles are the same file names. For example, the 2011 CVPI is named 'police.yft' but the 2016 FPIU also has a file called 'police.yft'. How can I use both of these vehicles to replace the default ones in LCPDFR when both are the same name?

 

Secondly (maybe side note) In the default vehicles, can I swap the ones I don't use for one of the downloaded ones? Because I certainly don't use a military jet, nor do I use the motorcycle, and a bunch of the other vehicles.

1) Just rename either the CVPI or the Explorer to a different police slot such as police3.

 

2) You can, but I wouldn't advise it.  If you want more emergency vehicle slots, look into standalone cars.

• Plus how available 'police slots' are there available? Because, I want to also add a few more patrol cars (CHP).

Yes it will.  You should be able to switch out the motorcycle without issue as long as you replace the vehicles.meta.

No interest in the motorcycle then. I really don't want to bother with any metafiles.

Yep! However, do note.  If you intend to add in any Explorers or Tahoes, you will need to either just replace FBI2 or SHERIFF2.  If you try and replace the POLICE slot with an SUV, the handling line is going to be very weird, borderline unusable.

Ah hah....     that was the problem then. 

 

So FBI2 and  SHERIFF2 must be specific to SUV frames.

Yes and no.  Again, this comes down to vehicles.meta editing.  If you don't want to edit any of this, then yes, FBI2 and SHERIFF2 have to be SUVs, and the other slots have to be cars.

Cool. Thanks a billion dude....  I've monkeyed around with mods from other games like 911 First Responder but GTAV is a totally different beast. 

 

Now my biggest hurtle if remembering all the controls for the other mods: Police Trainer, SmartRadio, Arrest Manager, etc...

I have a solution for that as well - write them down!  Either in a notepad on your computer, or write them on a real life notepad and have a cheat sheet.  That way you have all the controls there.

I'm a little confused over what exactly I need to do to the meta file. The suv (Ford Explorer) I want to use includes a meta file but I don't know what I need to edit in it. I know I need to install it into a folder using OpenIV but not exactly sure what to do in the file. Remove certain text or lines?

Technically, you don't need to change anything except the handlingid.  Find the line for your police Explorers, change handlingId to gresley

Is gresley a vehicle type? Where in the Readme does it reference that?

It doesn't.  Gresley is GTA V's version of a Ford Explorer.  So changing the handlingid to gresley will make your Explorer handle just fine.

If you rename the vehicle files (.yft, .ytd, _hi.yft) from POLICE3 to SHERIFF2, you will need to rename the ELS VCF, the meta lines and carvar as well to match the renamed file.   To clarify, are you just renaming the vehicle files to SHERIFF2, or are you trying to get rid of the POLICE3 slot entirely?

Hmm...  I'm not really trying to get rid of the police3 slot. I just want to change the Sheriff2 slot to the Ford Explorer I found.

 

Police3 is already changed to a crown vic I found.
