How to prevent my mod from distribution

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

If I've made a mod which I only want to be used by people I choose, how do I prevent my mod from being used by others? Is there a way I can add some sort of license key to my mod? I don't have any experience with writing scripts yet. Can you help me?

Kind regards,

Bart

There's really nothing you can do except hope the people you trust don't redistribute it - or just don't give it to people.

I need donations to help fund my food addiction. DM for details 😂

But how do creators of big mods like the upcoming Coastal Callouts arrange there closed beta's? If you donate, you get beta access, but people with the mod can easily share it. Is it all about trust?

I'm pretty sure it is.  I don't know for sure how the author for CC has it set up.

Mostly - yes. LSPDFR also has a beta programme, and we haven't had a leak.

How does the beta programme work?

Trust pretty much, you could probably make a web api that checks the IP its coming from though, would be a bit stupid though

Yeah, it's stupid, but the dutch community is not as friendly as this one. I have no experience with making an api, so I guess that wouldn't be easy..
