slicktop chargers and crow vics

Featured Replies

so i was wondering why most slicktop chargers have steel wheels. i know i'm not the only one that if you see a 30 or 40,000 dollar car runing around with steel wheels you just know it's a cop car. now i understand steel wheels on cop cars with light bars but you take most crown vics if it a marked car it has steel wheels and if it's unmarked it has hub caps. so i say this becase we have a lot of slicktop chargers and there nice but most of them have steel wheels. so i ask you if you were driveing down the road and seen a dodge charger setting on the side of the road unmarked but with steel wheel would you think it was the police?

Probably, or somebody who's trying to scare you into thinking they're a police officer. As far as the hub-cap-less design, caps can actually fly off of cars during high speed chases (cliche as it may be, it's true) so it prevents that from happening, and it also costs the police departments less money (that's all our government is concerned with). As far as unmarked units, they aren't supposed to be in pursuits and should be made to look like civilian cars. Civilian crown vics have the stupid, ugly wheel covers on them so usually the unmarked units do too. There are exceptions of course.

Honestly, Hubcap's on police vehicles is plain tarded.. but hey, who am i to judge..

@your question, it really all depend's, out here just up the street there is a tahoe that's all blinged out in the summer, but in the winter it has the same wheel's police tahoes' use, (no hubcaps), this person is an employee at a bank..

My opinion, if it look's like a Police Vehicle, assume it is, you can 9/10 times, tell if it's a Police Vehicle whether it's marked or not marked, even unmarked vehicles have "hint's" that it is in fact a police vehicle.

Crown Vics did have an "Street Appearance Package" from the factory for police fleet vehicles.

(Hubcaps/alloy wheels, chrome trim, badges, etc...)

Lots of retired police cars around here as well.
