Crashing with Mods Folder

Featured Replies

Just a general question, I have been crashing on startup anytime I have any file, whether it be a simple .txt file, or a mod, in the Mods folder. Does anyone know a solution to this? I have been looking around and cannot find one, unless I am purely blind.

It would help if you could post a screenshot of your gta 5 directory and mods folder. Also, have you tried reinstalling openiv?

Yes, and I' even reinstalled gtaV as well. I've been testing which mods when installing to the mods folder crash my game, and it seems to be mods with automatic installations. I feel like a file isn't installing and corrupting it.

You could try running openIV as an admin, see if that helps.

I'll see, what's bothering me is that mods even when not installed to the mods folder crash my game, so I feel like it might just be a driver issue, because the crash is always memory related, and it's only been recent with this problem.

Hmm, yeah could be it, but I wouldn't worry just now. Which mods exactly are causing the problem?

And when exactly does it crash?

EUP, and any visual mods for the most part, but sometimes, it's any mod that has been recently installed. It's as confusing as that sounds too. And it crashes on the RPH loading screen when your about to load into the game.

I'm reinstalling my GPU drivers since they where outdated, and wouldn't finish updating. I have a strong hunch that's the problem.

Yeah, try that. Definitely won't hurt.

If that doesn't solve it, you should try installing a gameconfig.xml that's been edited to support more added models.
I don't know exactly how it works and what it does, but I know that big mods with lots of added models (like RDE for instance) come with one or at least need one and that it has to be remade and reinstalled after every GTA5 update.

I think you should try the one that's pinned to the top of the RDE download page over on GTA5-mods.com (the mediafire link). That's the one I used when my game crashed when I used RDE alongside Realistic Driving V, and it helped.

That was the issue as I suspected, thanks for the help however! The moment I reinstalled my gpu driver, the game started up no problem, and ran perfectly.

Glad to hear it! Have fun playing!
