Needing explanation of Intel Dual Core Quad Q6600

Recommended Posts

Hey All

I'm needing to upgrade my processor from Intel Dual Core E2220.

I'm thinking of replacing it with an Intel Dual Core Quad Q6600.

But I'm confused as to what is the difference between

a Dual Core Quad and a Quad Core?

Thanx for any explanations!

God Bless Everyone!

I want to Thank Asuna, cp702 and chevymanusa for the advice.

I'm still confused as to if Intel Core 2 is a Quad Processor or not since it's

a Core 2.

I suppose that it's just a marketing gimmick.

I'll keep comparing my possibilities.

About changing out my Mobo ... Would that involve doing any soldering?

Once again ... I appreciate the advice!

That's not exactly accurate. Four cores only helps with multitasking, and may not help any given program. A program needs to be specially written to take advantage of all cores.

To the OP: A Dual Core Quad makes no sense. That'd be like saying "a four-cornered triangle".

I agree, and I also believe Asuna is correct in regards that the OP is referring to Core2 (named series by intel).

My advice would be save your money and upgrade the mother/cpu/ram at the same time. Q6600 was released in January 2007 and unless you are getting it for free, I wouldn't spend a penny on it.
