Removing dinput8.dll and crash on loading

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I usually removed dinpunt8.dll file from main directory to play online safely but now, removing it causes game (started via normal launcher) to crash on loading. Any ideas? Days ago I verified game files because I had some troubles with game crashing in the desert (probably due to a bad GTA Redux bad installation) and since then I have not played online yet. Thank you for your help!

I use NaturalVision which requires VisualV (so ENB series and ReShade)

This screenshot shows the file I remove, allowing me to play online no problem at all. If removing just dinput8.dll no longer works for you try checking for the other dll file d3d11.dll and remove that. If this still doesn't work my recommendation would be to uninstall GTA V, delete all remaining files then reinstall GTA V. This will give you a fresh clean folder to re-add your mods to.

Also you state you used GTA Redux, be sure you only ever use a mods folder for this (through OpenIV). Altering the game's own files will always cause problems if you ever forget what you changed etc.

First of all thank you for your help! I have moved those files (at least ones I found as not everyone was present) but I still get the crash. It's weird because I play smoothly the Story mod launched via vanilla launcher and even with RPH. I think something got messed up when I verified the game files. It downloaded 1 GB and since then I have never played online. Before I wanted to join a friend and found out this crash. Before that "verifying" all went smooth: cut the dinput8.dll file and I played online! By the way I installed redux via OpenIV and followed the site's instructions (weird they say to replace original game files). Are you sure nothing can be done? It will be a pain downloading 60 GB of game again and installing all mods :S! Anyway, thanks again for your help!

Then redux is probably the problem. Something somewhere will still be modded and that's what is causing issues.

I think a full clear out of your folder will be the best bet, even if it is a paint to redownload a 60GB game. Unless of course anybody else has better ideas.

Ok... Re-download will be, then! I'll wait couple of hours and a patrol before uninstalling. Just few questions if you don't mind:

1) Do you think backup-ing scripts, mods and lspdfr folder would be ok? I am thinking to copy the backup folder content in the new and fresh GTA V folder after proper RPH and LSPDFR installation.

2) Is NaturalVision safe and easy to install? I usually follow instructions but I don't want to mess the game again! Furthermore, should I use radianceV alongside with it?

Thank you :)

1) Yes, by all means backup your plugins folder and any other script mods. That will save you some time.

2) NaturalVision is quite hefty in terms of it's requirements and install. You'll need to install VisualV and then NaturalVision. But as long as you use the OpenIV mods folder you should have a reasonably easy install. Always use the mods folder, so as to not overwrite game files fully.

As for radianceV I don't use it so can't say if it's worth using or not.

Do u use mods folder? I would recommend u to use manual installation if you already have moded game in future. Unless u really know it will not conflict with ur moded game. U can always open .oiv packages via Total Commander to see what is inside.

This is my solution btw :P

I have just re-installed the game and installed mods normally, this time I'll be even more careful. If something goes bad I'll try your double folder solution... Thanks :)!
