Can't sign into windows live

im running a direct to drive copy with patch 7, worked fine for a long time and now it wont let me sign into windows live.. any ideas why? This is the message i get

"Error: The profile could not be signed in to LIVE. There may be a network problem or the Windows Live ID service may not available."

checked my internet and firewall and everything fine.
