It’s a real shame the days of offline gaming are gone; I suppose installing a game with a cd-rom and being able to play it was just too easy. God forbid you find a patch you’re happy with or use mods that are no longer supported. To this day I have yet to be able to successfully download a single update from the Rockstar servers. Every single update I am forced to re-download the entire game from a friends account (which takes about an hour and a half—funny considering I’m how I am unable to “connect to the Rockstar servers” to simply update my own game) and Frankenstein together his version of the game with the one I have installed and hope it works. Knowing that I am unable to download anything from Rockstar, I was desperate to think of a way to avoid this major pain in the ass. So once Grand Theft Auto was finally updated and successfully logged onto my account, I created a unique exception in my firewall that blocks Grand Theft Auto from internet access, and just as an extra precaution I unplug the Ethernet cable from my computer. And for exactly two weeks the game runs like a dream—it launches in offline mode and keeps my mods safe and lets me play worry free. But God-for-fucking-bid, every two weeks, I launch the game in offline mode and the game prompts an error message saying I need to connect to the internet to authorize my game or it won’t let me play; unless I download the patch at 190KB/s for 8 hours which inevitably fails anyway, but where is the fun in that? I’ve relentlessly sought help from the so-called Rockstar support team to no avail—which is no surprise. And to top it off they refuse to give me a refund. If I had known Rockstar was this incompetent I wouldn’t have bought the game in the first place. What is it with this generation and their incessant need to be connected to the internet every minute of every hour? Like I said, it’s a shame the days of offline gaming are gone.
